CaveGirl
TB, I feel badly each time I watch "Jailhouse Rock" knowing that Judy Tyler was killed soon after. I think it may have been a car crash. She was quite good in this film and better than most of the female co-stars of Elvis films, except of course for the more famous ones like Lizbeth Scott and Ann-Margret.

She was quite good in this film and better than most of the female co-stars of Elvis films, except of course for the more famous ones like Lizbeth Scott and Ann-Margret. I read somewhere that there were two films Elvis made he couldn't bring himself to watch. One was JAILHOUSE ROCK, because he had become close to Judy Tyler and her sudden death was a lot for him to handle. And the other was LOVING YOU, because his parents had uncredited bits as audience members in the scene that takes place at the Grand Theater--and his mother died the very next year. TopBilled
I'm interested in seeing THE SKY'S THE LIMIT (1943) with Fred Astaire & Joan Leslie. I didn't know that had made a film together until I saw the promo. I think it was Fred's last one at RKO. After this, he spent much of his movie career at MGM and Paramount. Warners had loaned Joan Leslie and it was probably a chance of a lifetime for the young actress. Robert Ryan is third-billed, and it was one of his very first Hollywood screen roles. MCannady1
I commented recently in the thread that I have been looking at the Paramount Vault titles on YouTube. I was excited this morning to see the folks at Paramount have just uploaded two more Republic classics. What's remarkable is that these do not air on TCM, and they were never put on DVD. So this is a real treat. I watched one of them-- 1945's MEXICANA, a musical with Tito Guizar-- this morning. So very good. Hi, I just watched Mexicana on You Tube. It was very good. I loved the story and the lovely music. Had not seen Constance Moore in many things or Tito Guizar. It was a real treat to see Leo Carrillo and Stephen Geray in this witty and colorful story.

Yes, it's a wonderful little picture. Republic made some rather decent musicals. Guizar turns up later in a Roy Rogers western where he sings a few numbers. And Moore is in a very good Republic musical called ATLANTIC CITY, which is available on Amazon Prime. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_City_(1944_film)

I really love Film Noir in the last few years and find Nightmare Alley TB, I feel badly each time I watch "Jailhouse Rock" knowing that Judy Tyler was killed soon after. I think it may have been a car crash. She was quite good in this film and better than most of the female co-stars of Elvis films, except of course for the more famous ones like Lizbeth Scott and Ann-Margret. Me too! I read not long ago that it was her honeymoon trip. SHe and her husband and pets all died. I liked her here and also in an early episode of Perry Mason. IT said in the magazine article that Elvis was pretty devastated about the accident and was good friends with Judy and her future hubby.

I have been into Film Noir lately and also Forbidden Hollywood so noticed some great titles here from both genres. (Love Nightmare Alley and Stage Fright as well as Nightmare and Fallen Sparrow (from the Wonderful Film Noirs) and Under 18 and Imitation of Life '34 from the great early 30's. In the latter film, Claudette and Warren William as well as the wonderful Louise Beavers are magnificent here. I taped this tearjerker years ago and re-watch now and then.

When we first got our VCR in the early 80's one of the first things we taped was Shop. The first was AListair Sim's A Christmas Carol. Not long after that the wonderful Love Letters aired. A few years ago I found the book - Love Letters (by Chris Massey) in an old book store in San Luis Obispo, Cal. The movie and the book are both very riveting and enchanting.
