I post these on my Facebook page each day. There was a more glamorous shot of her from SAN ANTONIO I almost used, but it looked a bit too western and SAN ANTONIO is not on Amazon Prime. So I chose this more general publicity photo instead. I had a lot replies from friends on Facebook who commented how beautiful Alexis Smith was-- but I think she looks even better in SAN ANTONIO and NIGHT AND DAY, when she was at her peak in the mid-40s.

Mona Freeman as Miriam Wilkins on Amazon Prime

DEAR WIFE with William Holden

DEAR BRAT with Billy De Wolfe

"Dear Wife" has Bogie's second wife, Mary Philips in the cast and I always enjoy seeing her, since she does not look like she'd ever be Bogie's wife. He moved on after her to that firebrand, Mayo Methot who seemed more his speed in the carrying on style and gin joint jaunting, but Mary Philips was a fine actress who graced many a wonderful film. Thanks, TB!

You may be thinking of something else. DEAR WIFE was a Paramount follow-up to an earlier romantic comedy called DEAR RUTH. William Holden and Joan Caulfield were the main couple, and Mona Freeman played the kid sister. In the third film, DEAR BRAT, the focus was on Freeman's character while Holden & Caulfield were out of town and off screen.

Both Dear Ruth and Dear Wife do feature Bogie's second wife Mary Philips in a minor role  (she was his x-wife after 1937).

Freeman is the one that is in all 3 'dear' films.      The gal in the photo with De Wolfe is Freeman and maybe that is where there is confusion.

You're right James. Glad you clarified. I misread CaveGirl's post-- I thought she was saying Bogey was in DEAR WIFE with Mary Phillips. I had to check his filmography to see if maybe he did an earlier film with Phillips that had the same title.

Now we're all on the same page. LOL

Her name is the title on Amazon Prime

MILLIE with Helen Twelvetrees

LAURA with Gene Tierney

LULU BELLE with Dorothy Lamour

JACQUELINE with Jacqueline Ryan

Part II of this category should be doubled up women's names as movie titles like: "Elvira Madigan", "Victoria Regina" and "Nora Prentiss", TB.

There's also "Myra Breckenridge" if you so choose.

Ooh, I like that idea. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll keep it in mind!

Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes on Hulu

SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON with Nigel Bruce

THE WOMAN IN GREEN with Nigel Bruce

TERROR BY NIGHT with Nigel Bruce

Screen%2Bshot%2B2016-06-12%2Bat%2B7.03.0

Love all those Universal versions of the Holmes' classics.

Now having read almost all the tales, I know the movie versions with Rathbone are a bit doctored, but as my mother used to say when we would stay up late at night, and watch them...who doesn't love Nigel Bruce. Okay, so Doctor Watson is not really characterized as he was in the books, but who cares. My mother had read all the tales as a teenager and she was who got me into reading them also, and Rathbone to me is the personification of Holmes, even if the series does take major liberties.

Terror by Night, and The Woman in Green are favorites but for some reason that one with the Secret Weapon always bugged me since it is totally involved with modern day events AND Sherlock has that absurd curly lock that hangs down over his face for no reason I've ever found out.

Yes, they did seem to modernize the situations, probably to make the stories more relevant to wartime audiences.

Several years ago, TCM aired an entire day of the Sherlock Holmes movies. I believe it was a special New Years Eve day of programming. The Universal titles had been recently restored by UCLA. I'd like to see TCM rerun them.
