“Three” stories on Amazon Prime

TRIO with Somerset Maugham

HOMICIDE FOR THREE with Warren Douglas

THREE SISTERS with Laurence Olivier

Three is really a lucky number for anyone who watches that triad, TB.

The Somerset Maugham film is masterful and the play transposed to film, by Anton Chekov, stars besides Olivier, Alan Bates and Derek Jacobi, plus Larry's wife, Joan Plowright. It is a wonderful production of the play and does it proud.

Thanks for the heads up!

Most welcome, CG. The Chekov piece is very well made, as far as these adaptations go.

Seeing Robert Cummings in the TAM showing is a treat.

You're welcome. He earned an Emmy for it. The one with Miriam Hopkins is good too...it features a very young Elizabeth Montgomery as her daughter.

I love Elizabeth Montgomery in anything. She was so great in that TZ episode with Charles Bronson early in her career.

I just read last night that she was distantly related to Lizzie Borden. Wonder if that helped her play the part in that movie?

Interesting bit of trivia. Did not know there was a real-life connection.

Giallo on Amazon Prime

THE REDHEADED CORPSE with Farley Granger

THE DEVIL HAS 7 FACES with Carroll Baker

Having only seen Erika Blanc mostly in other giallo films, like Mario Bava's "Kill, Baby, Kill" I look forward to seeing this one with Farley Granger. Thanks, TB!

Yeah, I don't know much about her. She's very interesting in the Granger film. Let us know what you think when you see it..!

Interesting how Erika Blanc became a focal point of conversation yesterday. To be honest, I had never heard of the actress until I watched her in the Farley Granger movie. Incidentally, THE RED HEADED CORPSE combines plots from several well-known film noir. I'd say it's influenced by LAURA the most. Definitely worth checking out!

P.S. -- I think TCM should do a monthly spotlight on giallo.

You're welcome. It's interesting that Miranda is third- or fourth-billed (after Jane Powell and Ann Sothern) but she seems to be the focus of the advertising and promotional materials.

I think she's a riot in another MGM Technicolor musical, also with Powell, called A DATE WITH JUDY.

There is an odd little documentary called CARMEN MIRANDA-BANANAS IS MY BUSINESS which I first saw on VHS many years ago.  I knew very little about her, so it was of interest.  I'll have to see if I can dig it up.

Thanks for telling us about it, Roy. Sounds interesting.
