Claude Chabrol’s 86th birthday on Hulu

LES COUSINS with Gerard Blain

MASQUES with Philippe Noiret

LA CEREMONIE with Isabelle Huppert

Claude Chabrol was a master filmmaker.

His early films, which were so easily distributed in this country, were memorable like "Les Biches" and "Le Boucher".

Later, as foreign film distribution in this country dried up, his films could not be seen.

But the DVD market has restored many of them to us.

Over the years, though, he was more than the French Hitchcock.

He refined the genre.

Completely agree. And his films are easy to like.

There is an odd little documentary called CARMEN MIRANDA-BANANAS IS MY BUSINESS which I first saw on VHS many years ago.  I knew very little about her, so it was of interest.  I'll have to see if I can dig it up.

Interestingly enough there was a NPR Saturday morning interview with a Brazilian singer who referenced Carmen Miranda as a source of inspiration for her music.  Cannot for the life of me recall the singer's name but will always remember Carmen Miranda and her tutti-fruiti hat.  One big disappointment of my South American trip was the closure of her museum for renovations in Rio de.janerio.  I really wanted to see those costumes close up.

I think I would have been disappointed, too!

Jean Kent’s 95th birthday on Hulu

THE WOMAN IN QUESTION with Dirk Bogarde

THE BROWNING VERSION with Michael Redgrave

THE HAUNTED STRANGLER with Boris Karloff

One of the greatest films I've ever seen was "The Browning Version" and Jean Kent added to its lustre.

Thanks for the update, TB!

Yes, she is great in THE BROWNING VERSION. When looking over her film resume recently, I was surprised at how different her films were. She didn't stay in one genre or play one type of role. In many diverse productions, she blended in effortlessly. And the ones where she has lead billing really give her a chance to showcase her particular skills.

THE BIG COMBO with Cornel Wilde

THE BIG KNIFE with Jack Palance

All great films but "The Big Knife" has that great writing of Clifford Odets and really singes the fur off Hollywood. TBT's has Arthur Hunnicutt and TBC has great noir cinematography.
