I would love to see George Sanders spotlighted. His marvelous performances like Rebecca's sly cousin Jack Favell in Rebecca, ths suave roles in The Saint, Private Affairs of Bel Ami, etc. He even tried to seduce Mrs. Muir in The Ghost and MRr. Muir. When she discovered that he was married, that was it.

I remember seeing Bluebeard's Ten Honeymoon on TV when I was real young. I was not crazy about this film, but George gave a chilling and realistic performance as the murderous Bluebeard who married for money and then disposed of his brides. One day he slipped up and unawares, married the sister of one of them. Soon she has plans to bring him to justice....

I remember hearing on the news several years later about the tragedy of George committing suicide. He was bored, he said. There was nothing left and that was very sad to be said for a talented actor who had entertained many with superb performances.

I do not care for Hemingway either, come to think of it. Not for me the stories of big game hunting, etc. The Macomber Affair with Gregory Peck and Joan Bennett was well acted, but the topic was distressing to me. That is sad about his suicide and ultimately other suicides in the family. That said, he was really a talented writer.

I guess Hemingway and Sanders do have the suicide thing in common, never thought of that before. But they were very different men.

I like Hemingway's writing a lot. THE MACOMBER AFFAIR is a great motion picture...mainly because Robert Preston is so fantastic.

I love Dick Tracy because I love Jack Holt.

Every time I see Holt, all I can think of is how Chester Gould based his profile for Dick on Holt's rather prognathous jaw.

Thanks for the update, TB!

When he was still alive, my grandfather used to mention knowing Chester Gould. I never really believed it...Gould was from Oklahoma, and my grandfather was from Woodstock, Illinois. But I see Gould died in Woodstock-- so maybe my grandfather did know him. My grandfather also talked about knowing Johnny Stompanato, Lana Turner's boyfriend (who was killed by Lana's daughter Cheryl). And that I believed, because my grandfather was tough and did run with that kind of crowd when he was younger. Stompanato was born in Woodstock.

I liked "The Tenderfoot" because Joe E. was very forceful and masculine in it and Ginger had more brown hair than usual.

I bet there were interesting stories those young leading ladies could tell about working with him. In addition to Ginger-- Joe also costarred with Olivia De Havilland and Jane Wyman during their days as studio starlets.
