katyscar11ett
I sure hope I have my information right, if not, please forgive me. It's been 30+ years since I've seen either movie. I don't even know if either one is any good, but I'd like to see them again to find out. :-) 1) Clint Eastwood movie, I'm almost positive, but I'm not a big Eastwood fan so I'm not certain. Horror movie about a family who winds up in a weird community (car trouble?) which ends up being full of witches/devil worshippers. Final shot is of Eastwood suspended from a rope upside down - maybe above a fire? 2) I believe British - don't think anyone "important" is in this one but not sure cuz I wasn't too up on classic movies at this time so it could include someone well known. About an aristocratic family who wind up on a desert island (shipwrecked, I'm sure lol) along with their "staff". The butler winds up being the "head" of this island community. He and the eldest daughter of the household fall in love. However, as he warned her, when they are rescued and back to civilization, they resume their "place" in the household and their love is no more. Don't even know what made me think of these movies but I thought it might be food for thought for someone. :-) Thanks.
feaito
Hi Katty... I can help you with movie N?2, I also watched it eons ago on local TV; it's "The Admirable Crichton" (1957) and it starred, among others, Kenneth More and Diane Cilento (Sean Connery's first wife & mother of Jason Connery). BTW, One of Gloria Swanson's most famous silent films: "Male and Female", which was directed by Cecil B. De Mille, was based upon the play/story that originated both films. bollywood101
The shipwreck movie has come up recently in another thread. The US release title was Paradise Lagoon. Our local channel 12 had that in their movie library in the 70s and used to run it frequently; i've seen this in part or whole quite often. The other movie is not a Clint Eastwood. I haven't seen this in over 30 years, and the plot details, such as the guy hanging over a fire, escape my failing memory, but I suspect you're thinking of The Brotherhood of Satan from 1971. L Q Jones was in it, as a bad guy; he's rather Eastwoodish, a long lean taciturn western type who was a regular in the films of Sam Peckinpah. It had a traveling family stranded in a 30-miles-the-other-side-of-nowhere southwestern desert town where everybody were Satanists, and a downbeat ending. I saw it at the drive-in when it was new. Charles Bateman was the dad and there were a couple of kids, with Strother Martin, also a Peckinpah regular, as another of the cultists. Very good low-budget indie horror which I believe was released by Columbia. (If not the same film, so much like the one you're looking for that you would probably enjoy it.)
