What do thread views mean?

Recommended Posts

On December 14, in "Films and Filmmakers," I started a thread on the 1997 film Gummo. To date, it has 156 views and one reply. The one reply is mine -- I am the only respondent to my own post in my own thread!!  What does this mean?  Could it mean that I should have started the thread in "General Discussions," where it would no doubt have competed favorably with the ME-TV thread? Surely the paltry number of views/responses can't be a reflection on such a landmark movie??!!

No, now what ya SHOULD have done Swithin was maybe made the title of that thread of yours read somethin' more 'controversial' like maybe:

"If you watch The 1997 film Gummo, does that make you 'Anti-TCM'?"

(...now c'mon ol' buddy...SURELY you've figured THIS out by now!!!) ;)

Monthly Update:

Seven threads debut on the list (meaning they have over 1,000 views) and are marked in bold.

I have also included a new section called ‘Bubbling Under’ where threads that have hit the 900 view mark could potentially reach 1,000.

I think if you have a thread which lasts for more than four hours, you should seek immediate medical attention.

LOL

Soooo, even "mensches" are subject to a good health plan too occasionally, eh Rich?!!! ;)

I'm really not sure why you care about this TB. It's somewhat like counting how many people in a bookstore  pick up a book you wrote  whether they buy it or just browse its content or just look at the cover art. But here's one thread that was before your time that you will likely never top. "Seeking Copy of Hollywood Revuew of 1929"  was started on April 20, 2008 by a guy who was looking for a way to get a copy of that film. (Yes, I know "Revue" is misspelled, but that is how it was spelled in the thread title) The last post was on October 31, 2010. There were 1703 replies to it and people were commenting on it daily. It became a mini-museum of the late silent early talkie era with tons of pics and posts and even youtube links. I'm sure the view count is wrong, probably reset when the message boards were recently redone. Well, I'm done hijacking your thread. Later.

When does this yo-yo ever have time for his self claimed: Film Writing and Selected Journalism

Obviously, it's a joke or an unfulfilled dream....every time I see a new thread he's started & answered, I just feel sad for him.

He doesn't. Check out IMDb.

Very sad.

My Jerry Lewis thread has now hit 1171 views. I predict that it will easily make 1172 by the end of the day!

So, lemme guess here Tom...you only invest in good conservative Blue Chip stocks too, right?! ;)

Laugh at me if you will. But I am sticking to my BOLD prediction.

My thread is skyrocketing today! (I'm so proud).

If TCM is ever sold it is possible this message board goes the way of the dodo bird. I doubt they would eliminate the movie database as that does have value, but apparently some think that message boards live forever, and that is hardly the case.

A message board like this is an expense to maintain, and a company that gets merged may have new management that hates message boards and so it is canned. I am just pointing this out in case anyone has the crazy notion they can build some reputation that is lasting out of posting here. I do not want to say people are wasting their time but these are here to exchange information, not build reputations.

Anyway this has been many echos down a deaf canyon , does anyone here actually believe the thread view count means what they think? if you do please I have a beautiful movie channel for sale, it does classic movies, lol. I will sell for a good price, the host is included.

You can buy it and OWN the message board, wink wink. ;);););););)

The Joan Rivers thread is now hitting 1,000 views. So that makes 60 threads I have created that have reached the 1,000-view mark.

This thread has jumped from 3,628 to about 4,200 views since yesterday.

Oh sure! NOW to you tell me all this, MM!!!

And here all this time I was hopin' all these smarta$$ posts of mine around here would eventually get me inducted into the Smarta$$ Hall of Fame(I think it's in Altoona PA), and thus my "legacy" would live on forever!!!

(...I gave up my quest as an inductee into the Mensch Hall of Fame years ago for obvious reasons)

If a thread has a large views/replies ratio. that means that most message boards members are saying to themselves, "What is this crap?"

I don't know why, but your spot on 'what is this crap' brought this to mind:

And you may ask yourself

What is that beautiful house?

And you may ask yourself

Where does that highway go to?

And you may ask yourself

Am I right?...Am I wrong?

And you may say to yourself yourself

My God!...What have I done?!

Sorry, Talking Heads, to besmirch your lyrics in connection with Mr. Cocoa Puffs.
