Richard Kimble
While a young actor making his name on the Mr Peepers TV series in the early '50s, Tony Randall got a letter complimenting him on his performance. It was from a distant relative he'd never met -- Theda Bara. He wrote back thanking her, but he never heard from her again.

Theda Bara was battling cancer and passed away on April 7, 1955...maybe that's the reason.
Richard Kimble
Theda Bara passed away on April 7, 1955...maybe that's the reason. You may be right, but when I saw Randall tell the story he seemed to imply that she had long enough time to write back (I don't know when her letter was written -- Mr Peepers began in 1952), but chose not to. Richard Kimble
A few others: Woody Allen was related by marriage to Abe Burrows, who helped him get started. Even Woody needed a relative in the business. Leslie Nielsen was related to Jean Hersholt. '50s pop singer Georgia Gibbs was related to '60s radical Abbie Hoffman. And perhaps my favorite: Tea Leoni is the grand-niece of Hank Patterson, Green Acres' immortal Mr Ziffel. Does that make her Arnold's step-cousin? hamradio
Jason Patric ("The Lost Boys") grandfather is the late Jackie Gleason.
Tikisoo
I find ALL these interesting, thanks for posting them. I still can't believe Jean Stapleton & Maureen Stapleton aren't sisters, they look so much alike to me.
starliteyes
Ginger Rogers and Rita Hayworth were distantly related through marriage. Rita's uncle married Ginger's aunt, making Rita and Ginger sort-of cousins.

Macaulay Culkin's aunt is Bonnie Bedelia who played Holly McClaine in "Die Hard" What a golden opportunity missed, they could had merged a "Die Hard" film with "Home Alone". The carnage. Dargo
Well, as some of us know, Drew Barrymore is related to a particularly famous American theatrical family. (...and which of course as some of us ALSO know, ALWAYS helps get one's foot in the door when it comes to certain job opportunities)
BingFan
In a roundabout way, I learned yesterday that Ruby Keeler was the aunt of Ken Weatherwax, who was best known for playing Pugsley Addams on the original "Addams Family" TV show. Not a strong physical resemblance, however:

lavenderblue19
Hamradio is correct. Jason Patric is Jackie Gleason's grandson, not his nephew. Jackie Gleason's first wife was Genieve Halford. Their daughter is actress Linda Miller. Linda Miller is Jason Patric's mother.
SullivansTravels
Brigitte Bardot is sorta related to Winston Churchill. She's the former wife of Roger Vadim, who was the former husband of Jane Fonda, who's the daughter of Henry Fonda, who was the former husband of Margaret Sullavan, who was the former wife of Leland Hayward, whose widow was Pamela Harriman, who was the former wife of Randolph Churchill, who was the son of Winston Churchill. Red Foley and Uta Hagen: Red Foley was the grandfather of Debby Boone, who is the wife of Gabriel Ferrer, who is the son of Jose Ferrer, who was the former husband of Uta Hagen. Unlikely pairs with an ex-wife in common: Burt Bacharach and Jack Carter Henry Miller and Lyle Talbot

Speaking of the Ferrers, Tessa Ferrer, who recently starred on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and the CBS summer series "Extant," is the daughter of children's author Gabriel Ferrer and Grammy winner Debby Boone. That makes her the granddaughter of both Academy Award-winner José Ferrer and music icon Pat Boone. Her maternal great-grandfather was country legend Red Foley. And she is the niece of actor Miguel Ferrer of "NCIS: Los Angeles." Since her paternal grandmother was singer-actress Rosemary Clooney, she also is George Clooney's second cousin. I wonder if she was invited to the big September wedding in Venice.
