coffeedan1927
Monday's question: What George Gershwin song in the score of the movie musical AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) was originally commissioned by director Vincente Minnelli himself? Good luck!
coffeedan1927
No takers? The answer is "By Strauss." Years before, Vincente Minnelli had heard George Gershwin play a parody of Strauss waltzes at a party, and asked him if he and his brother Ira could turn it into a song. The result was "By Strauss", which Minnelli used in his 1936 Broadway production The Show Is On -- and 15 years later in the movie AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.
