Three classics are coming to DVD and all star Kirk Douglas: ACE IN THE HOLE aka THE BIG CARNIVAL (1951) directed by Billy Wilder co-starring with Douglas is Jan Sterling. Douglas along with Robert Arthur will be doing commentary; THE DETECTIVE STORY (1951) starring with Douglas is Eleanor Parker (in an Oscar nominated role) and William Bendix. This one is directed by William Wyler. Paramount is also releasing STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS (1946), Douglas' film debut co-starring Barbara Stanwyck. This one has only been available in a horrible PD print and thankfully this will be a remastered print. Lastly, no classics, but lots of fun are MY FRIEND IRMA/MY FRIEND IRMA GOES WEST double feature. This was Martin & Lewis' film debut. Irma is played by the zany Marie Wilson.

Thanks, as always, for the great head-ups!!!

I only wanted to note that I bought a couple of years ago, the Alpha DVD edition of "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" and the transfer is just great (the price too!! s.th. like 7 bucks). Just for your info.

Ace in the Hole has long been a hole in anybody's Billy Wilder collection and Detective Story has long been in a hole in anybody's William Wyler collection and they've both been holes in anybody's Kirk Douglas collection. Super news that they'll be filled. To see The Strange Love of Martha Ivers in a non-PD print, and a pre-1949 Paramount actually released by Paramount Home Video, will be something else. Great news for collectors.

This is turning out to be an incredible year for classics not previously released on DVD or even vhs. The only film I have seen was THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS, and that was years ago. But ACE IN THE HOLE aka THE BIG CARNIVAL (supposed to be ahead of its time in its treatment of the press) and THE DETECTIVE STORY are two films with such great directors (Billy Wilder and William Wyler), that they are definitely going to be day one purchases for me. Thanks for the heads up Edge.
