cody1949
Does anyone know why this movie is so unavailable? It would have been a perfect addition to TCM's September spotlight, The Jewish Experience on Film. I have never seen it on any cable channel or DVD. TheGayDivorcee
Good question. I saw it in a film class in the1970s, but this is the first mention I've heard of it in years.

lzcutter
Does anyone know why this movie is so unavailable? It would have been a perfect addition to TCM's September spotlight, The Jewish Experience on Film. I have never seen it on any cable channel or DVD. It's been tied up in rights "hell" for a long, long time. Would be great to see it finally get free. Haven't seen it since its original release. Bogie56
I believe it should now be available on dvd. It was just restored with the help from Canadian government funds last year and had a screening at Cannes which was attended by Ted Kotcheff and Richard Dreyfuss. This restored print has aired on Canadian movie channels. I have to say, though it was clean it didn't look as good as I thought it would. Maybe too bright. But it probably still remains the best Canadian feature ever made. Dreyfuss is great as is Joe Silver, Jack Warden and Denholm Elliott gives a a career best performance. RMeingast
Howdy All! And Happy Spring, eh! Anyway, FYI this article from the Feb. 16, 2013 issue of "The Toronto Star" discusses the restored version:http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/movies/2013/02/16/the_apprenticeship_of_duddy_kravitz_gets_new_life.html The article above states the film rights for Canada were held by Alliance Films. That company was bought by Entertainment One in 2013 (and the rights with it): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_One#Film Apparently Entertainment One has a distribution deal with Time Warner - the parent company of TBS and TCM... So who knows about American film rights?? The full film is on Facebook. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yotq4Y8bl4c And here: It is a great movie and I've always enjoyed it.
cody1949
Thank you, Bogie56 and RMeingast for this good news about THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ. I will be looking for it on DVD or a showing on TCM in its original aspect ratio of course.
