Guest obrienmundy
A few weeks ago, I shared a poll of 40s best picture nominees with you. That poll went over well so I have returned with a poll involving the Best Picture nominees of the 20s and 30s. The aim is the same as before, and I thank you in advance for reading this poll. 1. To participate, just send me your lists of your top 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 favorite Best Picture nominees and/or winners to my mailbox in a private message or simply post it in this thread. 2. Friday, September 12, 2014 is the last day to participate 3. JamesJazGuitar
Ballots are "due"? The logistics escape me. Obrienmundy takes all the 'ballots' and complies a final result. There is a cutoff date for this; If one submits their choices AFTER that cutoff date they will NOT be included in the final results. How can that simple logic escape you? AndyM108
These are the movies that stand out from your list. I'm not trying to fill any pre-set quota, but rather just noting the ones I think hold up the best on repeated viewings. There are others that I've liked but have no inclination to see again: 1927/28The CrowdThe RacketSunrise: A Song of Two HumansWings 1928/29None 1929/30All Quiet on the Western FrontThe Big House 1930/31The Front Page 1931/32 Five Star FinalGrand HotelShanghai Express 1932/3342nd StreetI Am a Fugitive from a Chain GangLady for a Day 1934Imitation of LifeIt Happened One Night The Thin Man 1935The Informer 1936Libeled Lady 1937None 1938 Grand Illusion 1939None

Bastet
I wish I'd participated in the '40s poll; I don't know how I managed to miss that, but I enjoyed seeing the results. rosebette
Here's my list for what it's worth. speedracer5
I haven't seen many of the late 20s-early 30s films, so I can't make too many "picks" on those. The very early days of the talkies are not my favorite era of film. 1927/28No selection 1928/29No selection 1929/30All Quiet on the Western Front 1930/31No selection 1931/32 No selection 1932/33No selection 1934It Happened One Night The Thin Man 1935Alice AdamsCaptain BloodMutiny on the BountyTop Hat 1936The Great ZiegfeldLibeled Lady1937The Awful TruthStage Door 1938 The Adventures of Robin HoodJezebelTest Pilot 1939Dark VictoryGone with the WindThe Wizard of Oz *I have seen "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," but I thought the film was kinda meh. I didn't see what was so special about it. I definitely wouldn't place it in my top 5 list for anything-- except for maybe top 5 filibusters on film. LonesomePolecat
Here is the list of all 102 eligible films organized first by year and then alphabetically: Don't know how I missed that 1940s poll you mentioned. I better do this one! Not sure, since everyone is doing it differently, if we're supposed to go in order by year or overall? I guess I'll list my favorites for each year then put in bold my #1 for that year, does that work? Well, here goes... 1927/28 Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans Wings 1928/29 (none) 1929/30 (none) 1930/31 (none) 1931/32 The Champ Grand Hotel 1932/33 42nd Street Lady for a Day Little Women 1934 It Happened One Night The Thin Man 1935 A Midsummer Night's Dream Les Misérables Ruggles of Red Gap Top Hat 1936 Libeled Lady Mr. Deeds Goes to Town 1937 The Awful Truth Lost Horizon 1938 The Adventures of Robin Hood Grand Illusion You Can't Take It With You 1939 Gone with the Wind Goodbye, Mr. Chips Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Ninotchka Stagecoach The Wizard of Oz As usual 1939 is the hardest list to choose from

JamesJazGuitar
What was the result of this poll anyway? Good question. I was going to reply to this 'new' poll (since your post pushed it back on top), but I'm glad I checked below and found out I already did. I wouldn't want to give a different listing (which can happen to me with a poll like this).
