How many John Wayne movies were colorized?

Does anyone know how many were colorized?

Only one I can think of is The Longest Day. Colorizing works but the purists scared outfits like tcm into backing off from airing colorized films. Two colorized films that I think would change the minds of many viewers about colorizing are the colorized prints of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and Bogie's Chain Lightning and of course Howard Hawks' The Thing that tcm once upon a time did show but has since chickened out of showing ever again.

According to a Turner press release at the time, Citizen Kane was never colorized b/c Welles' contract would not permit it.

What are the other examples of when outfits like TCM were "scared" by purists into backing off?

Well, cable's independent stations no longer show movies anymore but once upon a time when they did a colorized print of both Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and Chained Lightning made the syndication rounds nationally never to be seen again since because the hollywood elitist crowd started squealing like stuck pigs with the bs rhetoric about artistic integrity. Both aforementioned films looked pretty good colorized but no one is ever gonna see that now because of the ever arrogant hollywood crowd.

And if I am to be criticized for my remarks then I must challenge tcm to show colorized prints of both aforementioned flicks and let tcm viewers judge for themselves.

Question, just what moved tcm to show a colorized print of The Thing in the first place???

The colorized versions of The Thing and King Kong are both on youtube. People oughta be allowed to judge the matter of colorization for themselves without arbitrary hollywood edicts that dismiss public opinion.

Well I'm another person at this thread that feel your wrong here.    The colorized prints look like crap and artistic integtiry is important to me.

So do you want those 50s 'B' sci-fi films to be colorized also?    That would make them somehow better?

You speak for the hollywood establishment. Answer my question. Just what moved tcm to ever show The Thing colorized? I guess the folly of colorizing wasn't so instantly plain to tcm programmers once, now was it? :D

Yeah, I'd like to see somebody take a crack at coloring say KRONOS. :)  But hollywood arbitrarianism has killed colorization.

The market place drove many studios to colorize 'old' movies in the hope that doing so would increase sales of those movies under the misguided belief that if only these movies were in color younger viewers would purchase them.

Since most fans of 'old' movies rejected the idea of colorization and most younger viewers weren't going to purchase a movie released before they were born even if colorized,   the fad of colorizaition mostly died.

But yea, TCM didn't catch on to the folly of colorization as soon as they should have.  Oh,  well,  as you like to point out 20 times a day or more,  TCM makes mistakes!

So they were thinkin' money. Who's to say that colorization was not given enough of a chance to catch on. People will view with interest a 2-color process technicolor movie like Mystery of the Wax Museum or Unknown Island in cinecolor. :)

I do know I enjoyed Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and Chained Lightning colorized a great deal more than I did in plain ol' black & white...especially the scene where Muriel is goin' over kitchen colors.

"a healthy winesap vs. an unripened jolly." :)
