Swithin
Venerable British composer/lyricist Sandy Wilson has died at the age of 90. His most famous show, The Boy Friend, gave Julie Andrews her Broadway debut and Twiggy a starring role in film (directed by Ken Russell) in 1971. Wilson also wrote the highly enjoyable musical Valmouth. http://www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/08-2014/sandy-wilson-dies-aged-90_35515.html
hepclassic
May he rest in peace. The Boy Friend is one of my favorite Ken Russell films.
hepclassic
For true enjoyment, put on the cast recording of No No Natette on and then listen to a recording of The Boy Friend. The latter spoofs the former's songs many times. The film was an intentional spoof.
Ray Faiola
THE BOY FRIEND was my first professional role in a musical and the last time I played a juvenile (thank God!). I was Tony and couldn't tap dance for beans, so Polly tapped and I whistled (Jolson style). Only 40 years ago!! RIP Sandy Wilson.
