Defective Criterion Blu-Rays

I had a Kino red ray that went belly up on me, the 1924 Thief of Bagdad, when I viewed it the second time. It would go into a freeze frame at what I assumed to be the dual layer switch of the disc. I had to replace it with the newest release of the film from Cohen, which now has rights to it (that disc is fine - at least, for now).

 

Very frustrating. I sometimes wonder how many other "good" discs that I originally checked out upon purchase will also have problems one day, if not now.

 

So far, though, I've been lucky. Only that one Kino has been a problem for me. It was a disc I purchased about eight or nine years ago, I figure.
