Ray Faiola
Hey, clever idea for a thread! no idea for movie...is there a Paris location involved?? Yes, there is! Film from 1940's.
mr6666
BTW may want to include 'music theme' or something similar in thread title to show it's different from other 'name the movie' threads -again, great idea!
Ray Faiola
Thanks for the excellent suggestion. Okay - a couple of clues. Part of the score is based on PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION. There is more than a musical connection between that theme and the film. The movie starred a venerable supporting player in a rare starring role. In addition to "PICTURES", there is also an operatic aspect to the film. Again - a 40's 'B' movie.
mr6666
probably wrong but 1st thought was The Moon and Sixpence (1942) (also clue-fishing)
Ray Faiola
Oh, much darker than MOON AND SIXPENCE. The star was the head of an acting dynasty.

Ray Faiola
Congratulations. Okay, one more. And this one's even OLDER than BLUEBEARD. You MIGHT get a clue from the studio emblem music as it was only used on a few pictures made by this independent producer. The film itself is based on a stage play and inspired a long-running franchise. Ray Faiola
with a Spanish location?? Nope. And I'm afraid a hint about the location would give away the title. However, I can tell you that the music does not give any indication that the film is a comedy.

Ray Faiola
Nice clue! I think it's "A Night In Casablanca" with the Marx brothers and Sig Rumann. Well done! And the lilting title music is by Werner Heymann. Okay - Here we go again: One of my favorite films in Technicolor. MilesArcher
That was Werner Janssen, not Werner Heymann. Here is a clip: http://www.veoh.com/watch/v18370797BQ4rx8qH And I misspelled Sig Ruman! Now, back to the new music.

MilesArcher
"The Shepherd Of The Hills" (1941) The song is "There's A Happy Hunting Ground". Fuzzy Knight sings at about an hour and eleven minutes into this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVUIbZg3pPM
