Orson Serling
I wish to give a sincere thanks to the people of TCM for showing the various versions of Scrooge/a Christmas Carol. Especially the long lost "Carol for Another Christmas." As you can tell by my name I'm a hugh fan of Rod Serling. From "Requiem for a Heavyweight" to "Planet of the Apes" to this very surrealistic interpretation of a Dicken's classic.I was born in 1964 and tonight was just the second time I saw this made for tv movie. Once again, Thank you Ben & the entire staff @TCM. I wish a heartfelt Merry Christmas to all on earth! May Joy and Peace be in your thoughts, on your lips, and of course in your Hearts!
TopBilled
I like many of Serling's Twilight Zone scripts, but he was occasionally heavy handed and simplistic in some of them. Judged on its own, I found Carol for Another Christmas to have some of those qualities and it sometimes felt like an overlong episdoe of Zone. As an adaptation of Dickens, it just doesn't work very well. Dickens and Cold War politics and the U.N. just don't mix. To me It's an interesting experiment which fell short. Even a good writer like Serling misses every once in a while. I agree. Serling wasn't exactly known for his subtlety.
