British actress Billie Whitelaw, who played Damien's protective nanny in "The Omen" (1976) and co-starred in Sir Alfred Hitchcock's "Frenzy" (1972), has died at the age of 82.

Thanks for posting this, Jake. I remember her well as Albert Finney's ex-wife in Charlie Bubbles, a film which may never have been shown on TCM.

 

She had a distinguished career on stage in Britain.

So sorry to hear this. I first encountered Billie Whitelaw when I was a kid, seeing Make Mine Mink for the first time. I did not know then that she was, or would become, renowned for her portrayal of roles by Samuel Beckett. I saw her on stage twice, in Michael Frayn's  Alphabetical Order; and Christopher Hampton's Tales from Hollywood, in which she played Nelly Mann, the wife of Heinrich Mann, whose novel become the The Blue Angel.

 

She was a wonderful, versatile actress and a unique presence on stage and screen. She's on the right in this photo.
