Irene Dunne - 8/18

Recommended Posts

I don't know about anyone else, but I am excited for Irene Dunne's day tomorrow in the Summer Under the Stars festival. My VCR will be taping basically the first half of the day tomorrow! They are showing about 6 or 7 of her pre-Codes (including an early version of The Age of Innocence, which I have wanted to see for years!) I can't wait to see more of her pre-Code films - it's always fun to see her in those kinds of films. She usually played more proper women in movies of the late 30's and 40's, so it is neat to see her in these more daring films.

I hope my VCR can take the heat tomorrow because I love Irene Dunne and have not seen many of the films on tomorrow. I have actually finally decided I need a DVR so I can keep up with the daunting task of recording this month! I can't wait till tomorrow!:)

"Theodora Goes Wild" is one of Dunne's zaniest comedies. A must!

As for "Bachelor Apartment", it's a very interesting early talkie, especially, IMHO, because one has the chance of watching silent legend Mae Murray in one of her few "Talkies" appearances.

As for "The Age of Innocence", I also liked it very much and it's definitely good. The actress who plays Irene Dunne?s grandmother (Helen Westley, I think) is just great.

Irene Dunne was a great performer.
