Barton_Keyes
The son of film producer Samuel Goldwyn, who won the best picture Oscar for THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946), Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. made a name for himself as a champion of independent film. The producer died on January 10 at the age of 88. Among the directors whose early careers were supported by Goldwyn, Jr. are Kenneth Branagh (HENRY V (1989)) and Ang Lee (THE WEDDING BANQUET (1993)). Goldwyn, Jr. received an Oscar nomination for best picture for MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD (2003). He also produced the 2013 Ben Stiller version of THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. cody1949
I wish TCM would show one of his earliest productions, THE PROUD REBEL. Not the public domain print that has been kicking around for many years, but an archive print in its proper aspect ratio. This is an excellent Alan Ladd film that co-starred Olivia de Havilland as well as his son, David Ladd.
