I noticed that TCM is showing hardly any horror movies compared to last year when they showed all of the Universal Horror Classics. Now this year all TCM is showing is Village of the Damned(1960), Phantom of the Opera(1925),Wolf,(1994), Mark of the Vampire, Vampire Bat, The Birds and Psycho. Come on TCM show some old school horror like Halloween and the Exorcist and the Universal Classics.

If they were to show the classic Universal Halloween Movies they would have to rent them.

I don't know how much the yearly budget for renting movies outside of the Turner Library is but it could be they used the majority of the money to bring us films from other studios throughout the year.

Just a thought

Several years ago for Halloween I planned ahead and taped "The Birds," and "The Thing from Another Planet," off TCM. Then on Halloween we carved pumpkins, put them in the family room & lit the candles inside, popped popcorn and watched these movies. My kids, who of course had never seen these, LOVED them. In fact, my oldest still rates scary movies off of these two classics! They debated for a long time, what happened after "The Birds" ended--did the birds attack, did they leave, or what??

However the next year I taped the Lugosi version of "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" and they thought they were both boring and stupid.

You can tell your kids that Hitch wanted to end the movie with Rod Taylor and family driving towards San Francisco and as they approach the Golden Gate Bridge the Bridge is covered in birds.

Universal, however, balked at that ending and wanted something a bit more "up-beat".

My son's birthday is in July, which is in the middle of baseball season, so we always wait and have his birthday party in October. The kids go to a haunted house and come back and watch horror movies. We did "Psycho" last year and they loved it. And these kids were brought up on the Halloween and Friday the 13th movies (though I don't know what their parents were thinking, letting them see those movies--the average age of the group is 12). So, maybe there's hope for the younger generation yet. (maybe LOL)

Uh...I did tell my kids FRANKENSTEIN & DRACULA were classics. I guess they just ignored me (imagine that!)

The ending suggested where they drive to San Francisco and see the birds on the bridge is awesome! Too bad they opted for an "upbeat ending." Actually, the ending wasn't very upbeat at all! Who really knows what would happen to those poor people. It was a topic of conversation at my home for days.

I'm ready to reply again. As long as horror movies don't mess with religion, Christianity in particular, like the Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby, then let the kids (all of us) have a great, scary time watching all these gory, gooey, wicked, horrendous movies. I generally pass, but some of the old timers-Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Mummy and others are fun to watch and I really like them. The takeoff with Gene Wilder, of The Young Dr. Frankenstein is a must see, too. It does have it's moments. And I know kids love to be scared silly and love to scream till they lose their voices so let them have at it-new or classic-doesn't matter-the kids in all of us love them all! :D Sue
