lavenderblue19
this is really a guess, is #4 Todd Starke or maybe Philip Brown?? They played Doris Day's sons on her tv show ? Can't find a photo to verify, but your clue made me think of them and she did have 2 blonde sons with bangs cut that way If the connection is that each had a more famous sibling or other relative in the business, then it probably isn't Todd Starke but the other actor who played her son, Philip Brown, he was related to actor Peter Brown ??? edited by me
MilesArcher
No, it's not Tod Starke. The show that this boy was on was a sort of spin-off of a very popular sitcom that had started in the early sixties. The original star had decided to leave the show, but some of the series regulars stayed on for the spin-off. Once you get the common theme of all of these photos, it might be more apparent. More hints: No. 1 played a dim-witted character named Humphrey in three boxing movies. No. 2 was the guy who put up the poster of Miss Turnstiles in a classic musical. lavenderblue19
Miles, I had edited my post and I guess you did not read the edited version although I did the edit before you posted. I wrote that the connection was that each had a more famous relative in the business. is that not correct? #2 is Milton Kibbee
MilesArcher
I did not see you're edited post before I posted my response, but you are right in that the common theme is that each one had a more famous sibling. No. 4 is not Philip Brown. This boy has a sister who would go on to be an Oscar winner. Oh yes, no. 2 is indeed Milton Kibbee.

scsu1975
#1 is Robert Coogan
MilesArcher
Yes, that's all of them now. Lavender was correct with Buddy Foster, and Rich was correct with Robert Coogan. As I said earlier, the common theme is that each of them had a more famous sibling. Here is a rundown. 1. Robert "Bobby" Coogan was the younger brother of Jackie. People used to confuse the names of Jackie Coogan and Jackie Cooper. Bobby Coogan's first movie was "Skippy" in 1931. Jackie Cooper played Skippy and Bobby Coogan played little Sooky. The film was so popular that they did a sequel called "Sooky" with both boys reprising their roles. In 1948, now adults, Jackie Cooper and Jackie Coogan starred in "French Leave", about two sailors on leave in France who are rivals for the same girl. Bobby Coogan was also in the picture. In 1950, Bobby Coogan played Humphrey Pennyworth, a dim-witted character in three Joe Palooka movies made at poverty row studio Monogram. That's his Humphrey character in photo no. 1. 2. Milton Kibbee was the younger brother of Guy Kibbee. Milton had a thirty year movie career playing mostly bit parts. 3. Lana Wood was the younger sister of Natalie Wood. In "The Searchers", Lana plays little Debbie, who is captured by Indians when her family is massacred. Years later, John Wayne and Jeffrey Hunter find teenage Debbie, now played by older sister Natalie. 4. Buddy Foster is the older brother of Jodie Foster. When Andy Griffith decided to leave "The Andy Griffith Show", the show became "Mayberry RFD" with Ken Berry starring as town councilman Sam Jones. Like Andy, he was a widower with a young son. Andy Taylor had married Helen Crump and moved away, so Aunt Bee goes to work as Sam's housekeeper and Goober and the other regulars are still around. 5. Speaking of "The Andy Griffith Show", young Clint Howard, the little brother of Ronnie Howard, appeared numerous times as little Leon, usually dressed as a cowboy and eating a sandwich. Clint later went on to star in "Gentle Ben". He has appeared in most of the movies that his brother has directed. 6. Jimmy Mathers is the younger brother of Jerry Mathers. Photo no. 6 is from the Disney film "Summer Magic", which has been shown on TCM. 7. Guy Stockwell is the older brother of Dean Stockwell. He was about thirteen when he appeared in one of his brother's pictures. Guy had an acting career in movies and TV shows that spanned more than forty years. He was a regular at one time in one of Lavenderblue's favorite shows, "Adventures In Paradise". 8. Jocelyn Brando was the older sister of Marlon. She played Glenn Ford's wife in "The Big Heat", which has been shown numerous times on TCM. She appeared in movies and TV shows from the early 1950's until the 1980's. 9. Maria Schell was the older sister of Maximilian Schell. She did a lot of German language films, but she did some work in America, including "The Hanging Tree" with Gary Cooper, and "Cimarron" with Glenn Ford. 10. Carlos Montalban was the older brother of Ricardo Montalban. After working in Mexican movies, he came to the U.S. and worked in many TV shows, as well as some movies like "The Out Of Towners" and "Bananas". As Rich mentioned, he played El Exigente (The Demanding One) in Savarin coffee commercials in the sixties and seventies. I thought that he would be the hardest one to identify, but Rich got him right away. Here is a very short clip of Carlos. Let's see, Lawrence got five, Rich got three, and Lavender got two. Nice work by everyone. Thanks for participating. Lawrence gets the thread next.

LawrenceA
Can anyone see my picture post? I was posting it when the website crashed earlier today, and now it's acting strangely. Earlier, on the message board index, the latest thread showing up in Games was this one, with my picture, and if you clicked on it, my post is there. But if you actually go into the Games & Trivia section, the Guess Who thread was way down on the list, as if my post had not been accepted. Now when I look at it, it shows Miles as having made the latest post, but when I click on the thread, I can still see my newest picture post. I want to see if others can see it before I take the time to re-do the whole thing.

MilesArcher
I think I know a few of them. No. 1 looks like Monte Blue, a silent screen star who played character parts in many movies, especially westerns, as he got older. One of his most famous silent films was "White Shadows In The South Seas". He was the villain in a Gene Autry movie, "Rootin' Tootin' Rhythm" that I've seen on the Encore Western Channel. No. 2 is British actor Richard Greene. He played Robin Hood on TV when I was a child. You may remember him from "The Little Princess" with Shirley Temple. No. 3 looks like Joan Blackman who starred with Elvis in "Blue Hawaii". No. 4 I believe is Kathie Brown. She was in many TV shows in the sixties and seventies, although I don't know if she was ever a regular in a TV series.. No. 5 looks like the guy who played Henry Fonda's brother in "The Grapes Of Wrath". I looked up the film's cast and he would be O.Z. Whitehead. No. 10 I'm not too sure of, but it looks a bit like the big guy from "The Big Parade" with John Gilbert. His name was Karl Dane.

newclassicfilmfan1
#7 is a guy who guest starred in a Combat tv show episode with a gravelly voice - can't think of his name at the moment.....I think his name is Mike Kellin
scsu1975
A very colorful collection of performers
LawrenceA
Miles is correct on all of his guesses. #7 is not Mike Kellin, although he was on TV a lot around the same time. #9 was an Oscar-nominated actress. I tried throwing you off by having a theme for 1-9, and then tossing Karl Dane in at the end to confuse you. But there is a theme among the others, which may help you guess the last two. newclassicfilmfan1
#6 is most definitely Goldie Hawn....but I see someone already guessed that one...didn't notice that before.
MilesArcher
Assuming that these folks have the name of a color in their names, I looked at a list of best actress and best supporting actress Oscar nominees for no. 9. I narrowed my candidates to Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave, Karen Black, and Joyce Redman. I knew it definitely wasn't the Redgraves or Karen Black, so it must be Joyce Redman, who was nominated for supporting roles in "Tom Jones" and "Othello". I must say, Lawrence, that she didn't look anything like your photo when she made those movies. I don't know who no. 7 is from your photo. Possibly a clue, or another photo of him would help. One more question: If colors in the name is the common theme, what color is in Pola Negri's name?
LawrenceA
"Negri" translates as "black" or "blacks". #7 was a Jamaica-born character actor of stage and screen, with his career stretching from the late 1940s on stage, early 1950s on screen, until his untimely death at age 55 in 1970. At the time he had a recurring role in a TV western. He was known for his wide range in roles, and for playing many races and nationalities. Here's another picture of him - Joyce Redman is correct for #
MilesArcher
Thank you, Lawrence. I googled Jamaican born actors and found that no. 7 is Frank Silvera, who played a lot of Mexicans in movies and TV shows. He had a recurring role on TV's "The High Chaparral". LawrenceA
That is indeed Frank Silvera. I'm surprised he stumped you, as he was often on TV, and you and Princess seem to know your TV people of the era. Shutoo got 2 and Miles got 8. Miles gets the thread. MilesArcher
Thanks. Now, who are these two young folks? They worked together often.
MilesArcher
Here'a a hint: They first worked together as young children, then they were paired up as teens.
MilesArcher
I'm surprised that there have been no responses. Here is a giveaway hint. They worked with other children at the Hal Roach Studios in the 1920's and as teenagers in the early 1930's. Here they are with some of their friends. And here they are in the center as teens with some new co-workers in a publicity shot for Hal Roach's "Boyfriends" series.. Any guesses now?
