LawrenceA
This guy goes back a lot farther than Durning. Yeah, I was joking, although when I stared into his face as instructed, that's who I saw. The outfit clues that it's quite a few years before Durning's youth. I really have no idea, although I have a suspicion that I've seen that picture before.
MilesArcher
Could it be that he did some acting, but was better known as a director? I'm thinking maybe Otto Preminger? Actually, I'm also clue fishing.

Princess of Tap
Who is this famous guy (he is 8 years old in this photo)? Stare at his face long enough and you may figure it out. If that's a riding crop in this little hand, it's CB DeMille.

MilesArcher
Here is a photo of five former child stars. It was taken by Delmar Watson, himself a former child actor. Can you name the five folks?

MilesArcher
The blonde woman is indeed Peggy Ann Garner. Good work, Rich. I'll give you some hints about the others: The woman standing on the left was in a few Disney movies in the late 1940's. The woman standing in the center was in many movies in the 1930's, including a memorable film with Bing Crosby. The man in the center was in several youth-oriented Warner Bros. pictures in the 1930's. The little woman that he is holding was also at Warner Bros. during that same 1930's time period. She was a multi-talented child.
MilesArcher
Apparently, I've stumped you so far, so here are some photos of these folks that may be more recognizable: The woman standing on the far left: The woman standing in the center: Here's Peggy Ann Garner: The man in the center: He's the boy with the hat on, I think. The woman on the lower right: Now do you know them?
LawrenceA
I thought #1 may be Luana Patten of Song of the South fame. #2 is Edith Fellows, from Pennies from Heaven. #4 is Bobby (or Billy?) Mauch, from The Prince and the Pauper. Is #5 Sybil Jason, Warners answer to Shirley Temple?
MilesArcher
We have them all now. Good job, Lawrence and Rich. It was Bobby Mauch in the photo. The twins first appeared in "Anthony Adverse" in 1936, with Billy playing Frederic March's character as a child. Bobby was his stand-in, but both boys later admitted that they alternated who would do certain takes and scenes, so if you watch the film, you never know if you are looking at Billy or Bobby. The boys were under contract to Warner Bros. during the same period as Sybil Jason. Lawrence, you get to go next.

MilesArcher
You've got some real tough ones here, Lawrence. I had just posted about "Anthony Adverse" and when I saw your photo no. 6, I remembered that Anita Louise was in that picture and I had seen a similar picture of her when she was quite young. Could it be a very young Anita Louise? Some may remember her from "The Little Princess" with Shirley Temple and Richard Greene. Boomers may remember her as the mother on the TV series "My Friend Flicka". No. 8 looked familiar. Many DVD distributors have put out inexpensive boxed sets of some of John Wayne's early low budget movies. I bought one. Most are westerns, but there was one non-western called "His Private Secretary" in which the leading lady is Evalyn Knapp. Could no. 8 be her? Still thinking about "Anthony Adverse", which starred Fredric March, I am reminded that his wife, Florence Eldridge was an actress who I had seen several times. Could no. 10 be Florence Eldridge? The others are tougher. I thought no. 9 might be Gale Sondergaard, but looking at that face and jaw line, i changed my mind. I think it might be Gloria Holden, who is probably best known for playing "Dracula's Daughter" I just don't know no. 7. With that dark background and her hands on her face, I just can't tell. Could you possibly give us another photo of her?.
LawrenceA
Your guesses of Anita Louise, Evalyn Knapp, Florence Eldridge, and Gloria Holden are all correct, Miles. Strangely, I thought # 7 would be the easiest, despite the obscuring nature of the pose. Most pictures of her are dead giveaways...how about this one? MilesArcher
Is it Ann Dvorak?
LawrenceA
Is it Ann Dvorak? That's her! She has a lot of different looks in her publicity photos, but I can always spot her by her eyes. Miles, you got the majority, so it's your thread. Thanks also to Princess and Rich.

Princess of Tap
It's MGM's the women with director George cukor in the middle. I haven't seen this movie in decades but I'm just going to name the people I know without looking it up. Rosalind Russell and Joan Crawford to the left of Cukor. Norma Shearer, Paulette Goddard, Mary Boland and Joan Fontaine to the to the right of Cukor.
Princess of Tap
I don't watch John Wayne westerns - - but I see a lot of character actors here that I know. This is the John Ford classic Stagecoach-- Claire Trevor, Wayne, Andy Devine, John Carradine, Thomas Mitchell, (skip) Donald Meek and I think that's George Bancroft.
