MilesArcher
Thanks, Lawrence and Princess. Every one that you both named is correct, but we don't have number 7 yet. He was married to a popular singer. He also starred in two "invisible man" movies.
lavenderblue19
Thanks, Lawrence and Princess. Every one that you both named is correct, but we don't have number 7 yet. He was married to a popular singer. He also starred in two "invisible man" movies. #7. is Jon Hall. I'd know him anywhere. I used Jon Hall and his wife Frances Langford in the HUSBAND AND WIFE thread as a question a few months back.

LawrenceA
3. Philip Ahn And 10. Is the Great Sessue Hayakawa Correct on #3...but you might want to look at #10 again. You might be right for another number, though.
MilesArcher
I believe that no.4 is France Nuyen, no.5 is Richard Loo, and no.9 is Sessue Hayakawa. No.10 looks like a very old photo, so I'll guess that it's Sessue Hayakawa's wife, Tsuru Aoki, who was also a silent screen actress.

Tsuru Aoki was said to be the first Asian actress to receive top billing in the United States. Thread open to whoever can post pics.
Princess of Tap
Correct on #3...but you might want to look at #10 again. You might be right for another number, though. I was just reading number 9 as number 10 because obviously number 10 is a woman. LOL

Princess of Tap
1. Jody Gilbert 2. Peggy Rea 4. Faye Emerson Lav, In the last "Guess Who", I had the right answer but I messed up the numbers because I had not put in my eye drops. On number 4, I know you got the right answer, but you just have a typing error-- I'm sure you meant to say Hope Emerson, who was the Beloved "Mother" from Peter Gunn. At our age we have to make sure we have the eye drops in and the glasses on. LOL

MilesArcher
Well, we have them all now, senior moments and all! Jody Gilbert is pictured with W.C.Fields in "Never Give A Sucker An Even Break". Peggy Rea was in countless TV shows. If you look closely st the last photo, you will see the name of J.D. Hogg on the door. She played the wife of Boss Hogg on "The Dukes Of Hazzard". Hope Emerson, who was six feet two inches tall, was probably best known for playing the prison matron who tormented poor Eleanor Parker in "Caged". The thread is open to whoever wants to post, Otherwise, I'll be back later this evening.
MilesArcher
These actors were all sidekicks, or "saddle pals" of a popular western star. Can you name them all, as well as the man they rode the range with? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. They spanned the years from the mid-1930's to the mid-1950's. scsu1975
#1: James Ellison, rode with William Boyd in the "Hopalong Cassidy" films #2: Gabby Hayes, also rode with William Boyd, but also Roy Rogers and others #3: Russell Hayden, also rode with William Boyd. #4: Andy Clyde, also rode with William Boyd. #5: Rand Brooks, also rode with William Boyd, and tried to ride Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind. #6: Edgar Buchanan, also rode with William Boyd. (I am beginning to wonder about Boyd).
MilesArcher
Yes, Rich. You got them all. The Hoppy series started at Paramount in the mid-thirties. The formula was for Hoppy to have two saddle pals. One young, handsome guy, who would be always chasing women, and one old grizzled type, who would be the comic relief. James Ellison played Johnny Nelson and Gabby Hayes played Windy Halliday. Ellison got to play Buffalo Bill in "The Plainsman", an "A" western with Gary Cooper, and he became in demand for more big pictures, so he left the series. Gabby Hayes went to Republic Studios, where he was partnered with just about every cowboy on the lot, but especially with Roy Rogers. Gabby played the role of Gabby Whitaker in many of Roy's movies. After a few years, the Hoppy series moved to United Artists. Ellison was replaced by Russell Hayden as Lucky Jenkins. Hayden was probably the best horseman of all of Hoppy's buddies. Gabby Hayes was replaced by Andy Clyde, as California Carson. Clyde had been one of the early Keystone Kops. He had his own series of short films at Columbia for a while. He rode with Hoppy the longest. When Hayden left the series in the early forties, he was replaced by Rand Brooks, but Brooks' character kept the name of Lucky Jenkins. Strangely, in the late forties, Hayden and Ellison did a series of westerns together, and Hayden's character in each of them was always named Lucky. A young actor named Robert Mitchum got his start by appearing in several of the Hoppy movies, usually as one of the bad guys. In the early days of television, William Boyd found that old Hoppy movies were being shown on a few TV stations, but he was not getting any money from those stations. He devised a plan to buy all of the old Hoppy pictures, and sell them to stations himself. Paramount would not sell theirs, but United Artists did. Boyd had then found a whole new audience of young fans. He became so popular that he made a few more Hoppy movies, and the "Hopalong Cassidy" TV series, where Edgar Buchanan played his sidekick, Red Connors. The Hopalong Cassidy movies and TV series have been aired on COZI-TV. Here's Hoppy. Good work, Rich. You get to post next.
