Visconti's LUDWIG (1973)

Another great mystery ! I saw Visconti's LUDWIG in 1973 as it was released by MGM (in English ! not synchronized dialogue). It was memorable, and I saw it about three times

for I was captivated by the south Germany scenery, as well as the historical plot.

Today, the "original" language of the film is stated "Italian" (with English subtitles). This is interesting for if one observes the lip movement the lips move in English against the Italian sound track.

Why has the distributors doggedly retained the English version without an English release ? I ran across a reference regarding the recently released German DVD, and the review mentioned that of the languages available, English is not one of them.

What is this intrigue ? What is at the bottom of it ? Sure, some of the film is sensitive, however there is a lot we see on TV today is more risque

than LUDWIG.

Does anyone know what has impeded this classic ?
