Sticking with just American, MY vote goes to either:

ORSON WELLES,  or....

JOHN HUSTON.

But, That's just the white guys.

To be more liberal, throw in:

ROSCOE LEE BROWN;

JAMES EARL JONES.

Oh, please.  The only real "voice of God" was that of John Facenda.

(...God actually is a pretty nerdy little dude, ya know...nope, no beard and he wears bifocals...didn't know that, did ya!)

Actually this bestselling book proves that our boy JC was quite the studly entrepreneur:

"Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?"

And, I'm happy to say I had the great pleasure of working with him --  he did some voiceover work for me and was a great gentleman.

Question...how does anypne knows what he sounds like?

The term comes from old-time movie newsreel narrators and radio news broadcasters, like Walter Cronkite, and like the voice that narrates the newsreel sequence in CITIZEN KANE. A big booming low frequency voice. The term probably came before that, in reference to theatrical speakers, orators, Shakespearian actors, etc.

The first person that came to mind...(or the first 'voice' that popped into my head) was the late, great, Barry White!  If he had the voice of God, then everyone in heaven will be gettin' their groove on.

Am I going to hell?   :o

George Carlin is also a hoot.

And speaking of George and The Ten Commandments.......

(...naaah, I better not post that YouTube video of that old routine of his here...ya never know...it might upset a few folks and take this so far somewhat innocuous thread in a whole different and "dangerous" direction...but I certainly agree with George's take on it anyway...and for anyone who's interest I've now piqued, sorry but you'll have to seek out George's routine for yourself on YouTube...it's there though, alright!) ;)

HA!

I was thinking  of Wally as I was catching up on the replies.  Thought it'd be funny!

I guess great minds DO think alike!  :P

And, if any recall, Alanis Morrisette never really speaks in DOGMA.  But, for further comic relief, IF God WERE a woman,as HELEN REDDY once asked, I like to think the best voice would be that of BEA ARTHUR!
