mr6666
does this not feature one of the dumbest songs ever?? (especially considering the terrific Bernstein theme music) -at least it wasn't used in the actual movie!
Tikisoo
All my recordings for July are clustered in time but the themes are all over the place.... yesterday 7/13 GO WEST YOUNG LADY '41 I want to see this oddity because it was directed by Frank Strayer and it's not a Blondie/Dagwood. Hope it's a fun one! today 7/14: THE LUSTY MEN '52 I've heard all kinds of comments on this board about this movie & want to see it for myself. Love Mitchum and the title can't be beat! tomorrow 7/15 ANOTHER DAWN '37 Love Flynn, love Francis. Can't wait to see them together. Probably the only Flynn movie I've never seen. Even if the movie's awful, should be worth seeing for the beautiful people. 7/17 MARIHUANA & short features These exploitation movies are usually really awful. I've just seen COCAINE FIENDS which is only worth watching for the ridiculousness. Gal "hooks" a guy into addiction by offering coke for a headache? Somehow I doubt people snorted aspirin. I especially love drug exploitation films that show people doing crazy things after smoking marijuana....in real life they just go to sleep like in the William Powell movie JEWEL ROBBERY '
LornaHansonForbes
The Maltin review for LOOKING FOR MR GOODBAR is MIA from the schedule listing, which I find is often the case when Leonard gives a film a bad review...did an internet search and came up with squat. curious about what he said, if he panned it then I MOS DEF will be setting the DVR.

Lorna, from the looks of Maltin I doubt he ever had much success in a singles bar, so the theme of the movie is really not in his wheelhouse to review or critique. I say, watch it, as it is a great cautionary tale!

Fedya
You press: "Alt" key while entering number associated with symbol you wish to insert. Not if you're not on Windows. I'm using Linux, so my current keyboard configuration doesn't have that TM sign. Alt+V, however, produces the ® sign. (I picked a keyboard layout that makes it easier to type the accented characters for most Western European languages, so it's easier to type the German ß or the French ç.) For stuff the current keyboard layout can't do, I'd have to go to other solutions. (The word processor does have a character map, for example. That's where I found the ™ character.) LawrenceA
Tomorrow I'm taping Gold Is Where You Find It (1938) for Claude Rains. Also Straight Outta Compton, but that's on HBO. And there's no Claude Rains. But there is Paul Giamatti. So there's that. I must of course recommend everyone watch the triple bill of Reefer Madness, Marijuana, and Cocaine Fiends. Just say no, kids.

Fedya
I must of course recommend everyone watch the triple bill of Reefer Madness, Marijuana, and Cocaine Fiends. Just say no, kids.NB: The TCM schedule (and my box guide) have a scheduling conflict with the running times. Reefer Madness is apparently 65 minutes, but in a one-hour slot, from 2:00 to 3:00 AM. Marihuana is only 57 minutes, and allegedly in the 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM slot, but that doesn't get us completely back on track. Cocaine Fiends does, since it's 68 minutes in a 75-minute slot, from 4:00 AM to 5:15 AM. TCM then does the maddening thing of putting two shorts in a 45-minute slot, but listing both of them as starting at 5:15 AM. (This practice is a bigger problem when they run a bunch of one-reelers in prime time as part of a salute to silents, or something similar.)
darkblue
I always wished that Andrew Robinson had had a bigger career. Quite a good actor in a variety of roles. The problem for him was having a face only his mother could love. His most attractive role was as a Cardassian on Deep Space Nine - lots of makeup. LawrenceA
Tomorrow I'll be recording the aforementioned Before the Rain (1994), as well as The Beggar's Opera (1953), an Olivier I haven't seen, and Medium Cool (1969) simply because I haven't seen it yet. I also second the recommendations for Picnic at Hanging Rock, Harper, and Ballad of a Soldier. All are worth a look.
