Unfortunately, many Lonesome Rhodes clones are all over television and the internet.  If Lonesome Rhodes were a form of digital media, that would epitomize the "influencer" culture on Instagram.

I love A Face in the Crowd.  Andy Griffith is kind of charming, until he really starts going off the rails. But I agree his loudmouth would be a turn off.  This film is very prescient of the nature of today's media--especially the level of narcissism present in social media.  This film would make a great pairing with Network

I love Valley of the Dolls.  I know the second film is not a sequel to the first, but based solely on the picture, it looks like something I would watch.

There are hundreds of very successful loudmouth people such as depicted by Lonesome Rhodes on TV and all sorts of media today.

Andy Griffith should have won Best Actor for his performance in "A Face In The Crowd".  I love showing this movie to those that only know Andy from "The Andy Griffith Show" or "Matlock".  They can't believe their eyes!

Hey,  Cid just had me on his mind because he likes me sooooo much!

Ok,  maybe that isn't the reason,  but I believe I'm the reason for this goof;   I had been posting at the Noir Alley thread about tonight's film;  Force of Evil,  and Cid was the last to comment on my post.

Then Cid makes this post a little while later but instead of John,  he put in James since,, well,  he got the idea for the post from me.     (another clue is that Cid mentions Windsor,,, because in his reply-post to me he said he would watch the film because of Windsor).

No,  but I believe I just saw him in The Women in White;    I could be confused but this was a film that has a lot of counts,  sirs, and other high and mighty title (at least in their minds), for the characters!

I couldn't believe my eyes either. Had he chosen to do so, he could have projected his career in a completely different direction. Or perhaps just maybe. He seems to have exhibited a range (with drama) that he didn't use so much later.

8:15 AM - The Great Race (1965)

Jack Lemmon acting for two as Professor Fate and the Crown Prince, the perfect reason to watch it as he and the Hannibal 8 are perfection.

1 p.m.  Critic’s Choice (1963).  With Bob Hope and Lucille Ball.  Anyone seen this one?  I’ve stayed away from it for 56 years.

Imbarco a Mezzanotte aka Stranger on the Prowl (1952), a Paul Muni film that I had never heard of WAS originally on the schedule for 8 p.m. but it has been replaced by Angel on My Shoulder (1946).

ANDY GRIFFITH- It is my understanding from multiple sources all over North Carolina and one in LA- Had a lifelong drinking problem that got in the way of everything. One person I met who had a couple of roles on Matlock said there were many times where they had to stop filming because he was so absolutely gassed.

He was apparently a mean drunk too.

So I think maybe he didn’t have to reach too deep to tap in to Lonesome Rhodes, (Also that kind of behavior From someone who has not yet been established*can get their film career scuttled but quick

I've never heard of Griffith having a drinking problem.  The biggest problem I heard he had was with GUILLIAN-BARRE syndrome.  It can too, in some cause slurred speech which may have given some the impression of drunkenness.   Just like for years people thought, because of her erratic and disheveled appearance and manic behavior, that RITA HAYWORTH had become a hopeless drunk, and NOT the victim of Alzheimer's that she actually was.

I think he found a platform that worked for him - comedic dramas or dramatic comedies mixed with situation comedies.

If you look at his filmography, Andy Griffith played some fairly dark characters from time to time.

My favorite Griffith movies are Hearts of the West, Winter Kill, Deadly Game and The Girl in the Empty GraveDeadly Game and The Girl were TV movies that would hopefully lead to a new series, but didn't.  Would like to see Adams of Eagle Lake which I understand was never actually broadcast.  Also, Murder in Coweta Country, just to see Griffith and Johnny Cash together.

Title refers to strange old house containing many mysteries, providing constant fear for farmer Robinson. Exciting melodrama with fine cast.

I've seen it. I recall liking it, but I'm an Edward G. Robinson fan.

It's in the public domain, so there are a lot of terrible copies around that can dampen the movie's enjoyment.
