ChristineHoard
I plan on recording (or watch live if I'm awake) Ziegfeld Girl which I haven't seen since I was very young and it was on TV. My mom had a couple of old movie magazines (one from 1937 and 1939) which I used to look through and as I started watching old movies on TV I made the connection between the actors and the people and movies mentioned in the magazines. I mainly wanted to see it for Judy Garland back then. ZG has a great cast, leading and supporting, wonderful costumes and set design and music. It's what one would expect from MGM. I remember trying to figure out who James Stewart was - I had read about him in Mom's magazines but couldn't place him in the movie at first. Lana Turner and Hedy Lamarr are drop-dead gorgeous. I don't know what happened to those magazines over the years but I wish I still had them.

darkblue
I can hardly believe 'Burnt Offerings' is still on the schedule for tonight! I think this is the third time it's been scheduled and we may actually get to see it this time.
speedracer5
I've been wanting to see Burnt Offerings for awhile now. I'm glad to see that it's still on the schedule! I've been trying to see more of Bette Davis' horror offerings. I still have Dead Ringer recorded from a week or two ago. Regarding today's films, I see that Frenchman's Creek is scheduled again. They sure are getting a lot of mileage out of this film. I haven't watched it yet, though it recorded it awhile ago. Knowing about the bad picture quality, I'm not expecting much out of this film when I finally watch it. Tonight I recommend Young Frankenstein. Hilarious movie. "Puuuuuttttttin onnnn the riiiiiiitz" The short films following Burnt Offerings sound hilarious: One deals with a young man trying to find a job after dropping out of high school and the other is a 1968 short made by Westinghouse telling women how they can improve their lives by decorating their refrigerators. I can just see it now, "I am broke and facing foreclosure, but then I redecorated my fridge and my life is so much better! Even though I'm about to lose my house and my newly redecorated fridge, but who cares?! My fridge is so pretty now!" Regarding tomorrow's films... Black Magic sounds interesting. It stars Orson Welles and is a film I've never heard of let alone seen. Ministry of Fear sounds good. I think I still have it recorded from last year's Summer of Darkness series.

I'll also be taping Black Magic.

Bogie56
Sunday, April 17/18 12:15 a.m. Wild Rose (1932). This film made the rounds in the 100 Years of Chinese Cinema tour not long ago. 2:00 a.m. Four Bags Full (1957) or A Pig Across Paris as it was known in the UK is worth a look for U.S. viewers. This has been replaced in Canada with El Casado Casa Quiere (1948). This is at least the second time they have used this Mexican film as a Sunday night replacement. 3:30 a.m. Port of Shadows (1939) has been replaced in both Canada and the U.S. with another Jean Gabin film, Pepe Le Moko (1937).

Tikisoo
5:30 a.m. Match Your Mood (1968) How to improve your life by decorating your refrigerator. It's not about decorating your 'fridge....it's about the idea a 'fridge comes in COLORS, like cars & phones. Post war America went wild with new "modern" things....color choices & push buttons meant you were modern & prosperous. It was the very beginning of the crazy retail culture we live in today. 1968.....harvest gold or avocado green? I love that educational films are little time capsules of how the US middle class population was thinking back then. It helps put today's retail culture into perspective.

I loved the music. I also loved the idea that dance parties would take place in front of the fridge that you coordinated especially for the event. There need to be more commercials like this on TV and less insurance, prescription pill and botched medical procedures requiring litigation ads.
film lover 293
"Match Your Mood" (1968)--Is on YouTube. I'll take the Catawba Cherry paneled refrigerator, no gold or avocado green panels, LOL.

speedracer5
"Match Your Mood" was hilarious. It ranks right up there with the "Wonderful World of Tupperware" short that TCM occasionally shows. I was kind of digging the gold refrigerator overlay. I forgot what the official name was, but I liked that the gold looked glittery.
speedracer5
We moved into a new house in 1974, when I was two. I grew up with avocado bathrooms and a harvest gold refrigerator. In 1993, when I was 9, my parents bought a 1979 ranch style home (which they still have). It had the original 1979 kitchen with brown cupboards, harvest gold formica countertop, harvest gold oven and harvest gold fridge. There was even brown and gold linoleum (which has been replaced with hardwood). The oven and fridge are long gone-- but they haven't gotten around to replacing the cupboards and countertop yet. It's ugly, but kind of interesting in its own way.

GregoryPeckfan
According to my provider, tomorrow night Canada - at least so says Optic TV listings on my screen - is still set to see The Spiral Staircase after all. Bogie56 or Barton Keyes - what are you set to get in Ontario? Are you getting The Spiral Staircase or another film? I have seen The Spiral Staircase on youtube, but if I could see it on a bigger screen that would be great.
Bogie56
Monday, April 18 The day schedule looks like a cut and paste job from not long ago. Ethel Barrymore night. 8 p.m. None But the Lonely Heart (1944) has to be one of Ethel’s best. 10 p.m. The Spiral Staircase (1945) In Canada and the U.S. TCM Canada is not regional by the way. Thanks for the confirmation. I did not think TCM Canada was regional, but I remember that Shaw TV likes to make its sports channels regional. I used to have Shaw. You never know.. The second time viewing I'll look out for things I did not see the first time around.

I love both of these films. I'm even fond of the next film to be shown, PINKY, but that's because it brings back memories of visiting relatives in the Deep South. Three of Ethel's best performances.
