What Are The Popular Slangs Words That Have Never Gone Out of Fashion?

Recommended Posts

I heard a phrase used on an episode of THE RIFLEMAN yesterday---

"I wouldn't sell that horse for ----

"MONEY, MARBLES OR CHALK!"

???

I GET the "money" part.  And, as an old "shooter" from "the day", I sorta get the MARBLES part.  But, CHALK?

Now, I also know this phrase as the title of an old blues tune from the early '50's by a guy named Jimmie Rogers( NOT that hillbilly singer, nor the "Honeycomb" guy)

I've never asked how much CHALK I needed in order to acquire anything.  So, why CHALK?

I love some of those old phrases, even if they ARE somewhat mysterious.
