WHAT WAS ORSON WELLES ETHNICITY IN MOVIE LADY FROM SHANGHIA?

To TCM-ITE that inquired on nationality of *Orson Welles-(1915-85) character in '48's "Lady from Shanghai"

normandie7, was 100% correct. He was among my fellow "Micks"-(Irish)

& I agree, he handled-(sad to say, unlike *"The King: Gable," in his A #1 embarrassment from 1937 "Parnell" M-G-M) (*1/2-out of four) He played-it without a tick of an accent & yet, he desperately wanted to try fellow MGM contract player, 3 time co-star & in essence, his Idol: *Spencer Tracy's-(1900-1967) route.

Or that of Warner Bros. *Paul Muni-(1895-1967)=(NOTE: I deliberately skipped over *0livier here, because he was not a "Name Above the Title,' actor as yet. 1939 did that for *Lord 0livier & many, many, others of course-('39 is truly cinema history's greatest yr!)

I do split ways with you on "Lady,' being an entirely great picture though. It has parts that are, but as a whole, just good-(arguably, it's both Rita Hayworth's & the sad: Everette Sloane's finest hour though-"Acting-Wise!") (Sloane killed himself in '65, due to increasing blindness)

It's B & W Cinematography was believe it or not? Not even nommed?-(though, not to defend it's choices that yr. EXAMPLE: *"HAMLET" actually, was voted a better movie than: "Treasure Sierra Madre???"-(which even non classic cinema fans, admire) & Both *Bogie as Dobbs & Edward G. in "Key Largo" were both "ignored?")

Thanks & to others that I assisted on sending items they were inquiring about.

If you read this, please let me know if you got info sent to ya'

I absolutely agree on Everette Sloane - his best performance ever IMO.

The impression some viewers have that movie seems strangely paced at times and pehaps has something lacking about it, might have to do with the fact that the studio cut an entire hour out of the original version. Shocking!
