jarhfive
Edward G. Robinson--at the top of my 'best actor' list. The IMDB filmography for Robinson lists a 1948 movie--"All My Sons". I have not seen this movie and (based on a few IMDB reviews) may be one of his best. "All My Sons" is out of print and is available only as used VHS for 50 dollars. Oh...'collectible' version--60 dollars. Has anyone seen this film? If so, your opinion? Maybe wait for that future "Edward G. Robinson...Boxed Set...Digitally Restored...DVD Collection"? feaito
Hi jarhfive, I taped "All My Sons" (a 20th Century Fox film) and watched it a couple of months ago, and I must say I absolutely enjoyed it. Edward G. Robinson is great as the father with a "shady past" and Burt Lancaster is equally good as his son; the European Mady Christians, who was a star of musical films, in the early 1930s in Germany and also acted in that same year's superb "Letter from an Unknown Woman", is excellent as Robinson's wife and Lancaster's mum. Noteworthy performances too by an unknown Louisa Horton as Lancaster's fianc?e and Howard Duff as her brother. The film is absorbing, dramatic, well acted uniformly by all the cast and believable. This movie is regularly scheduled on "Cinecanal Classics", a Premium Cable TV Channel that's available at least for South American subscribers; It schedules Fox and 20th Century Fox films, Paramounts from the 1940s and 1950s, mainly, Universal films from the 1940s, United Artists, etc., but no Warner Bros., MGM or RKO Radio films, because, as you know, they belong to Turner. Maybe in the United States this film may be scheduled by the Fox Classics TV Channel. I'm looking forward to watching "Up the River" a very rare 1930 FOX picture featuring future legends, Spencer Tracy and Humphrey Bogart, when they were both around 30 years old. Also taped Tracy's "Dante's Inferno" (1935), which I still have not seen.
jarhfive
Thank you feaito for the reply. My cable company is having a 'tiff' (to pay or not to pay) with two local 'over the air' channels. Premium, digital channels are rotated bi-monthly over the (not missed) broadcast 'spots'--including Fox Movie Channel. I will keep an eye out for "All My Sons" next time(s) around. If I seem to be too cheap to shell out the extra for digital cable...I am.

georgesperosjr
The Universal-International picture "All My Sons" (1948) was shown on Showtime and the Movie Channel in the early 1990's and American Movie Classics in the mid 1990's. The movie will probably be shown as part of the Universal movie library deal with HBO Cinemax channels and Turner Classic Movies.
feaito
You are right it's a Universal not a FOX film, sorry for the mistake....since Cinecanal Classics shows mainly FOX film, I got mixed-up.
vallo13
Usually this movie is shown in New York on PBS channels 13 or 21 from time to time, and it was the first movie for the new reorganized Universal-International to put them into the big leagues. But,it unfortunately didn't. vallo
