Film Fan 50s 60s 70s
You didn't say exactly what you enjoy most about it... Well, what I enjoy most is drama of the film. It's well filmed drama, imo. The pacing is good. Alien is well filmed and well-paced drama. I don't know more how to describe it. If someone appreciates well filmed dramas, than I think they should check out Them!

DougieB
Well, what I enjoy most is drama of the film. It's well filmed drama, imo. The pacing is good. Alien is well filmed and well-paced drama. I don't know more how to describe it. If someone appreciates well filmed dramas, than I think they should check out Them! The moment I like the most is when the young girl who was rescued from the site of the first attack is being loaded into an ambulence. She's in shock and totally unresponsive, but then we hear the insect sound in the distance. The attendants are focused on other things and don't see the girl slowly sit up with a look of total terror on her face. The sound fades and she lies back down, completely unnoticed by the men. It's a moment worthy of Hitchcock, making the audience a party to something nobody in the movie knows.
jaragon
A movie that terrified when I first saw as kid on tv- and still a very effective sci-fi thriller
TimRainsford
The best of the giant bug movies IMO. Still amazing how well the special effects hold up today. Great mystery and suspense and the serious performances from Gwenn, Arness, and Whitmore really suspend your disbelief. Don't miss Leonard Nimoy's cameo

A. Pismo Clam
I love all of the sci-fi movies from the 1950's. I believe that this feeling is due to not only living in that epoch, but having gone to the movies to see them. I grew up in Newark [yup, that one] and we had a neighborhood theater with a very large screen. The place had over 250 seats. Get in your seat when all the lights went out and you knew you were in for a real treat. Anticipation for the main feature grew as you watched the Popeye cartoons and the Bugs bunny sci-fi themed cartoons. I watch "THEM" 60 years later and I still get the tightness in my stomach. The "screetching" sound that the ants used to communicate, is enough to make you feel goose-pimplely all over again! Watch the movie again. Put yourself in one of those 250 seats and a 50' by 20' screen. Then the movie's intro theme. The first few bars get your attention when the giant T-H-E-M blasts in your face, then the music gets more subtle and eerie. Enjoy the show!

I was lucky to have a really good local theater too, though I never saw Them! The one that sticks with me is Forbidden Planet, which seemed miraculous to me, also with a great music score and fantastic (for the time) special effects. When I watch it now I feel like I'm right back in that theater. I love that you mentioned the giant title blasting you in the face. Sci-fi in general always had the best title graphics back in those days.
540SciFi
THEM is one of the very best things to come out of the Sci-Fi genre. Good pacing, tons of action (two epic battles and a minor one in the middle), and good acting. Also, you'll not be thinking "that's Marshall Dillon" after you see him initially. There are plenty of Sci-Fi movies where 99% of the story is just humans scrambling around and talking A LOT while trying to figure something out without giving the threat any screen time (no offense to that other James Arnes film The Thing from Another World), whereas this film gives you a really good blend of action, suspense, and investigation. The leading lady (Joan Weldon) also didn't feel like a tag along character or just play a love interest. She had a pivotal role for much of the film, such as when she went into the colony and figured out that the threat wasn't over after the first major battle. Top notch film from the '50s.
