Death Takes No Holiday -- The Obituary Thread

Recommended Posts

Kind of late, but I have just read in the CLASSIC IMAGES obits that actress Cindy Butler died May 26, 2020 unknown cause. She was only 64 years old.

She was briefly married to filmmaker Charles B Pierce who gave her a small role in 1976's THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN

and a starring role in MST3K favorite BOGGY CREEK II where she plays the inappropriately dressed tag-along-friend:

She pleads, "No Doc, I don't wanna see it" b2.jpg

and MST's response, "No one should have to see the little creature"

I loved her performance, she was really the most professional, believable actor in this movie full of bumbling wooden delivered lines. She lived her entire life in Texarkana and I feel sad she died so young.

LINDA MANZ has died at 58.  She was wonderful as Richard Gere's sister in Terrence Malick's DAYS OF HEAVEN (1978).  Manz co-starred and also narrated the film. When I saw this in a theater in 1978, we sat, enraptured by the stunning visions and music. Nestor Almendros won an Oscar for his cinematography; music by the recently departed Ennio Morricone.  One of the great films of the 1970s. Also starring Brooke Adams and Sam Shepard.

That’s sad to read about, but it’s interesting that she didn’t have many acting roles at all and she retired in 1997.

Mary Hartline, one of television’s earliest superstars, has died.

Mary graduated from the same high school as me.  I went to school with her nephew (he was in my class) and two nieces (one 2 years older than me, one 3 years younger).  She lived in Hillsboro for about 26 years after she moved back home from Palm Beach.  She was frequently seen walking her dog in her neighborhood and usually wore a cream-colored pant suit that was offset by her sunglasses and ruby red lipstick.  My sisters had Mary Hartline dolls when they were kids; they adored her!  I don't remember her from her television days though...I wasn't born when she was on the air.

My mom and I were only familiar with him through 42, Black Panther, and Get On Up.

I've got some young Black Panther fans who are very sad at our house.  Shocking that someone so young could die of colon cancer. Just so sad.

My mom said that she really wasn't that familiar with his work except for those three films and that was it.

I think I 'vs only seen him in the James Brown and Jackie Robinson biopics and Black Panther.  I also saw him on The Graham Norton Show.  He seemed like a nice fellow.
