Swithin
London premiere this summer. Sounds promising. http://rentboythemusical.com As does this version of La Ronde: http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/cgi-bin/search.cgi?mytemplate=tp2&method=all&10000001=10005235
DougieB
The La Ronde revamp sounds like a natural. I assume it takes into account the reality of STD's, etc., since it's dealing with the kind of thing which gives public health workers nightmares. Rent Boy I'm not as sure about, based on the somewhat cutesy lyrics and spare orchestration. It seems to have a kind of revue quality to it rather than being a book musical and I'm always a little skeptical of a guy's naked butt on the poster, as if there isn't anything more compelling about the show they could advertise. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Maybe I was just disappointed because my first thought was of a splashy gay Sweet Charity kind of thing, but I guess that's not what today's theater is about. Swithin
It'll be on when I'm in London -- the Ronde adaptation that is. It's on a a pretty good fringe theatre -- the King's Head in Islington. Perhaps I'll go.
