Ah, Raymond Burr.

My favourite Canadian-born actor of all time.

I am not sure I'll be able to focus on getting answers for this today because I'm tired today, but I had to comment on it because I love Burr so much and I am happy with the category.

As a personal comment, "Perry Mason" as well as so many other TV series provided actors and actresses, who had appeared in numerous feature films produced by so many of Hollywood's film studios but who no longer were able to do so, with a "theater outlet" which extended their careers longer than may have been possible and in doing so brought these actors and actresses to the attention and admiration of brand new audiences.

Very true. I like how you worded that. We can even say it extended Burr's career and brought him new fans. This is even more apparent when we realize that he returned in a series of successful TV movies as Perry Mason in the 80s and early 90s.

Spencer Tracy ....."STATE OF THE UNION" (1948)

Patricia Neal ..... "WASHINGTON STORY" (1952)

Patty Duke ...."HAIL TO THE CHIEF" (1985 TV show)

Thanks. The Pat Neal film is one I was trying to remember earlier. And just like Patty Duke, I think Geena Davis also played a female president in the series Commander in Chief.

Just mentioned Three Days of the Condor is one of my favourite political movies of all time.  It is based on a book called SIX Days of the Condor, but it was shortened because it was felt that this was too nail-biting a length for the public.

Thanks for mentioning that one. Rare Ginger Rogers film. I've seen it and rather enjoyed it.

Thanks, TopBilled, for citing "Magnificent Doll" from my list. It's rarely ever shown and it's one of my favorite Ginger Rogers movies. She worked with David Niven and Burgess Meredith twice which included this film from 1946 directed by Frank Borzage.  She would be featured in another film with David Niven "Oh Men! Oh Women!" in 1957. Your follow-up post made me think how enjoyable it would be to see "Magnificent Doll" again after such a long time.

I bought it from a vendor on iOffer about three years ago and it sat in a pile of discs. Didn't finally get around to watching it until a few months ago, and gee was it good. It was fun to see her do a period picture for a change. All those costumes! And Borzage's direction was flawless as ever. TCM should air it on President's Day.

I thought I recalled one of the Andy Hardy films being set in D.C., and I was right. It's JUDGE HARDY'S CHILDREN, the third picture in the series. Here's the description:

Judge Hardy takes a business trip to Washington, DC, where Andy promptly falls for the French ambassador's daughter.
