MarshaKatz
That would make a great primetime spotlight on TCM. Actually, Garner should get a day in August. Agree totally about James Garner. He deserves a day of his films especially including the ones Liam listed. His comedic westerns are superb and uniquely James Garner's tongue-in-cheek humor.
Mr. Gorman
Western comedies, eh? Hmm . . . GREAT BANK ROBBERY, The (1969) TCM has aired this. I actually found this movie quite funny despite never reading a +positive+ review of it. TEXAS ACROSS THE RIVER (1966) BALLAD OF JOSIE, The (1967) Somewhat of a Western comedy. WAR WAGON, The (1967) Some comedic elements in this John Wayne western with Kirk D. DIRTY DINGUS MAGEE (1970) KID BLUE (1973) HOT LEAD AND COLD FEET (1978) Disney APPLE DUMPLING GANG RIDES AGAIN, The (1979) Disney LUST IN THE DUST (1985) UPHILL ALL THE WAY (1986) One movie I'd like to see -- I'm not sure if it's a comedy or a part-comedy Western: ONE MORE TRAIN TO ROB (1971) starring George Peppard. It's a Universal Picture, which is why it's mostly buried! The Encore Western channel has aired this in the past, but I don't get that channel. The 1975 Disney movie "The Apple Dumpling Gang" is supposed to be a Western comedy, but it's one of the weakest Disney movies I've ever seen. The tone is mostly too serious and it's just not a good movie. Period.
LiamCasey
TB and Marsha, it would take more than a single day in August to air all my favorite James Garner movies! And if made for television movies qualify for this category, I would like to add The Over-the-Hill Gang (1969) and The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again (1970) just for the classic era cast members alone.
Mr. Gorman
In that case I will submit EVIL ROY SLADE (1972-Tvm) for your perusal. Has a very good cast, too.

Mr. Gorman
CIPOLLA COLT (1975-Italian) The English video title is "SPAGHETTI WESTERN". On VIDCREST. I have a copy of this. Stars Franco Nero as a guy who eats onions. Lots of them! Also stars Martin Balsam and Sterling Hayden, both of whom are dubbed by other actors. Not sure if Nero's English-speaking voice is his own?

They'll be just as entertained as we were by Garner.

Sometimes the main character is a place. Woody Allen's MANHATTAN comes to mind. Sometimes the main character in a movie is a ghost or religious figure that has god-like qualities.
