There are quite a few movie stars who dropped out of school. It surprised me when I researched it. James Dean was another one. He was 16 when he joined the Merchant Marines. Christina Applegate, dropped out of high school during her junior year and had great success on Married With Children. John Travolta, dropped out of high school and moved to New York City to pursue acting. Marlon Brando, kicked out of his Illinois high school for bad behavior. He was also expelled from a military academy for bad behavior. He had a successful career. Cameron Diaz, dropped out of high school at 16 to model as well. Hilary Swank, dropped out of high school to begin her film debut in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Ryan Gosling, dropped out of high school at 17 to pursue acting. Robert Downey Jr., dropped out of high school and moved to NYC to pursue acting full time. Al Pacino, flunked most of his classes and dropped out of high school at age 17. Drew Barrymore, was having trouble with drugs and alcohol by age 13. She was checked into rehab, and never graduated from high school. (I hope she cleaned herself up)!
