Mackenna's Gold is a guilty pleasure of mine.  It's not considered a great film, but it is a favourite of mine among Grgory Pek and Oar Sharif films.

 

The title song is great = "Old Turkey Buzzard" by Jose Feliciano

Charlie Chaplin dropped out of elementary school.

Sophia Loren also dropped out of elementary school.

Alice Faye only had an eighth grade education.

Johnny Depp dropped out of high school.

Well, if you are talking about celebrities in general and not actors, how about Microsoft founder Bill Gates?

Yeah, that works. 

 

There are quite a few movie stars who dropped out of school. It surprised me when I researched it.

 

James Dean was another one. He was 16 when he joined the Merchant Marines.

Demi Moore, dropped out of high school at 16 during her junior year and became a model, then actress of memorable movies.

 

Christina Applegate, dropped out of high school during her junior year and had great success on Married With Children.

 

John Travolta, dropped out of high school and moved to New York City to pursue acting.

 

Marlon Brando, kicked out of his Illinois high school for bad behavior. He was also expelled from a military academy for bad behavior. He had a successful career.

 

Cameron Diaz, dropped out of high school at 16 to model as well.

 

Hilary Swank, dropped out of high school to begin her film debut in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

 

Ryan Gosling, dropped out of high school at 17 to pursue acting.

 

Robert Downey Jr., dropped out of high school and moved to NYC to pursue acting full time.

 

Al Pacino, flunked most of his classes and dropped out of high school at age 17. 

 

Drew Barrymore, was having trouble with drugs and alcohol by age 13. She was checked into rehab, and never graduated from high school. (I hope she cleaned herself up)!

 

Marilyn Monroe, found out her current foster family was moving from CA to VA. Instead of going back into foster care, she married her boyfriend at age 16, and got a job in an airplane factory. Thus abandoning her education. 

 

Clark Gable, dropped out of high school after moving to Ohio with his father. He got a job at a tire factory.

 

Humphrey Bogart, was expelled from Phillips Academy in MA for drinking, smoking, throwing a staff member into the lake, and bad grades.

 

Julie Andrews, had a rough bringing up, and never graduated high school.

 

Sidney Poitier, dropped out of school at age 13 to help out his parents.
