Victor
Anyone know if there is a Schedule of This show somewhere on the TCM site?? They should really list when these shows are going to be on, I Just Love It.
odysseus
I agree. I understand "Now Playing" lists shorts in the "Festival of Shorts" series, but I don't know that it lists all shorts. Coincidentally, I saw the last part of a WB Vitaphone short early in the AM this morning (played just before Olivier's "As You Like It") and I would love to know the title. Fascinating '20's dancing. markfp2
There's been discussions about this before on the forum. TCM says that the shorts are only selected a day or two before they air , when they know how much time they need to fill between the features, so it's too late to put them in the schedule. Speaking for myself, and I think others, if that's the case, I'd like to see a daily list added to the schedule on the website. Since the website schedule is updated with last minute program changes, I don't see why shorts couldn't be added.
odysseus
Absolutely agree, Mark. It would also be nice to be able to look on the site and see what shorts played today or yesterday. Another idea would be for TCM to superimpose a "Now Playing:" box at the bottom of the screen so viewers will know what the title of the short is if they didn't tune in at the beginning when the title credits rolled. It would avoid the confusion I've occasionally had when I tuned in a few minutes before a scheduled program and what was on the screen didn't jive with what the schedule said. I've actually caught myself checking to be sure I was tuned to the right channel and looking at the right day on the schedule before it clicks in that I'm seeing an unrelated short. markfp2
I'm glad you agree with me about adding shorts to the website schedule, but I have to take exception to your idea of putting a graphic over the bottom of the screen with the name of the film on it. TCM is one of the few channels that doesn't clutter up the screen with visual garbage like that and I think that's the way we all want it. We watch TCM to see classic films uncut and in their original form and not be distracted by all that other stuff. The small TCM "bug" they show has been there from the start and since it's only on the screen for a short time and isn't very distracting, I think we've all learned to live with it, but as for anything else NO THANKS! By the way, welcome to the boards.I may not agree with you on this, but I glad you joined us.
yanceycravat
Ditto!!!! No Bugs or logos please, the TCM logo is quite understandable but anything else is like watching CNN! Also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of having a schedule of shorts, even if it's daily. How cool would that be? Yancey
odysseus
Not sure I was clear in what I meant. I also would object to banners, etc. during feature films. You are absolutely right about that quality of TCM. I was suggesting it might be an alternative only for shorts and only because there is no schedule for them. Without doubt a schedule would be a better choice. But without a schedule I would be wiling to settle for something onscreen that would tell me what I was watching. I understand completely any aprehension to having banners even during shorts as it takes away from the "old theater days" experience. It would be nice if TCM were willing to do something on the web.
