ONLY TCM HD Channel 789 on Comcast audio out of sync again

Recommended Posts

Ok. This is just getting to be too much. I am being driven mad by this audio out-of-sync madness. TCM channel 789 is STILL OUT-OF-SYNC! Just barely, but because I'm now so "hyper-aware" of this issue, I'm not even sure anymore. Looks like it's still off by a fraction - enough to notice. It's insane. Sometimes it appears to be synced-up. Is it me or is it still slightly off?

Not your imagination, Perlyn.  Video and audio are still out of sync.  I checked last night (Wednesday late) and this morning (Thursday, 9am, Arizona time).  TCM HD is discernibly and annoyingly still off synchronization.   My strategy--perhaps a sad one--has been to become reacquainted with TCM SD on Comcast.  That involved remembering how to change settings on my Comcast DVR box so that the few SD stations I tune to are not stretched but rather supplied with the correct letterboxing.

Excellent David! Couldn't say it any better myself. I will add my two cents as well. If this ever gets solved, we'll all have StephenL to thank for his continued determination and persistence!

Yes. this seems strange. All of our emails have been strictly about a technical issue involving Comcast and TCM. Nobody's threatening anyone, using harsh language or exposing anything personal here.

To whom, moderator, should our posts be directed? What "specific rules" are being violated here? And why can't you or anyone else answer any of the perfectly valid questions we've been asking. We're all fans of TCM and would like nothing more than to sit back and enjoy the good programming that TCM offers if only we could.

I don't feel like I'm wasting my time with this if it means something or someone will eventually solve this problem, but I can think of a few other things I'd rather direct my energy towards. We're paying for a product that's not working correctly and we want it fixed.

Wow. Well that's it then. Since they can't "duplicate" the problem (in other words, they can't see it on their end), the problem doesn't exist. And you're right, it's ridiculous to have someone out to the house to fix a problem that no longer exists. I'm convinced that even if they showed up for a service call and observed the actual out-of-sync issue, they wouldn't have a fix for it. Someone at Comcast must be able to access the TCM forum and view these comments. It's absurd. So I guess we all need new HDMI cables which they would gladly sell us.

Somehow, this issue needs to be elevated to another level - an outside source. Maybe we can contact one of the local consumer reporters (a few of our local TV stations here in the Bay Area have someone who looks into these kinds of things). Perhaps someone who writes a consumer blog or writes for CNet or some other tech watchdog group that has wider exposure and can make more noise. Still can't believe there isn't a way to contact anyone directly associated with TCM.

TCM should run Terry Gilliam's, "Brazil" - a film which is very much "in-sync" with our experiences.

From Comcast's website Dated 8/9/2016.   TCM On Demand Movies Out of Sync

For several days, movies on TCM On Demand have been out of sync: the audio doesn't match up to the video.  This has been reported to TCM.com without result; can Xfinity fix this?

Emails are considered private communications between two parties, and should not be publically shared without the permission of all parties involved. Please do not continue to post these. Also, there was personal info contained in a couple of these (first and last name). That is also something that is not a good idea to publically post.

Thank you for your cooperation

Yes. I just read his email and the Comcast response which he sent to my personal email. At least it sounds like he's getting somewhere. He has explained the situation very well and is continuing to insist that someone with TCM tech and someone with Comcast tech talk to each other. The Comcast Escalations Specialist has at least offered a few other possible fixes for this issue, but I doubt any of them would work.

As I've stated many times before, I think this is a more complicated engineering issue and neither party is willing to admit that the problem is more widespread.

I just posted a missive on the Comcast forum under a topic that stated that someone was having an "out-of-sync issue with MGMHD too. Hoping maybe someone sees it and picks up the ball. I'll have to look again. I didn't see a topic that dealt with TCM out of sync.

To all:

It gives me some perverse satisfaction that my entire posting was deleted.  I thought it might be helpful to share what Lady A said about our situation--much of it not very helpful.  I didn't even use any four letter words you couldn't utter over a Sunday brunch with your grandmother.  Ah, well.  The late 60's/early 70's are back.

#$@&%*!,

David (Tucson, AZ)

p.s.  I wish the moderators would take some of the energy they use to delete and edit our sincere postings and redirect it toward helping to create a true, functional, customer support/tech support operation at TCM.  Just think of it!   We might get this sync problem solved.  We might get WATCH TCM to work.  We might get a way to fix problems on the TCM website.  I dream...

Thanks David. Thanks Stephen. And thanks to everyone else who commented here and went through that special hell that is Comcast customer service. TCM is back in sync, although watching Dean Martin deliver his lines in Rio Bravo, you never know for sure. I have the distinct feeling we'll all be back here again. Hopefully, not too soon. Enjoy the rest of your summer everyone!

RE: Wow. Well that's it then. Since they can't "duplicate" the problem (in other words, they can't see it on their end), the problem doesn't exist

Must have been in our minds.

In Santa Mira, California, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is baffled when all his patients come to him with the same complaint: their loved ones seem to have been replaced by emotionless impostors. Despite others' dismissive denials, Dr. Bennell, his former girlfriend Becky (Dana Wynter) and his friend Jack (King Donovan) soon discover that the patients' suspicions are true: an alien species of human duplicates, grown from plant-like pods, is taking over the small town.

Now, how am I to write this without activating the edit/delete finger of the moderator?

I got a response yesterday to my response from SD in the office of TK at C@mC#ST.   I heavily paraphrase her thoughts...

This idea from her makes little sense to me and seems a complete non sequitur:  she contacted her colleagues and they pretty much agree that the majority of TCM movies were not made with HD technology and TCM has not converted them and that C@mC#ST can only broadcast what they are given.  I have no idea what she means.

This thought from her is more hopeful:  she checked out TCM HD on her office television and she noticed the delay--i.e., lack of sync.

She made the not very helpful suggestion:  we should watch TCM SD when TCM HD is out of sync.  This of course ignores many issues including the fact that many of us are paying extra so we can get a package with TCM HD.

Oy!

I'm debating with myself whether it is worth responding to her response to my response....

Nice! At the very least, you got someone from CC to actually see the audio sync problem with their own eyes!

I have no doubt this problem will return - again and again. As I've said many times before in my inadequate laymen terminology, this would seem to be an engineering issue that is most likely the result of layers of new technology being heaped upon old, existing systems. As more changes and "upgrades" happen, I think we're going to have more problems like this - growing pains I suppose. Having said that, I don't buy the explanation about TCM movies and HD conversion. Makes no sense to me. The very fact that everything's in sync and then suddenly out of sync kinda eliminates that ridiculous statement. And we shouldn't have to settle for watching TCM SD. I'm going to try to research this. There must be a digital/broadcast transmission tech person out there somewhere who understands what's happening.

As a final thought, I just wish someone would be forthcoming about who or what is responsible for this problem. After all this time, I would've thought someone at TCM would care enough to respond. Not looking to blame anyone here - just looking for resolution.

Apparently my entire reply to XXXX, re I'm debating with myself whether it is worth responding to XXX  response to my response, was deleted unless did not transmit.

Thus, since I was advised by Comcast:  I just received confirmation from the local Field Management team, Engineers included, regarding your reported issues with TCM HD.  At this time, we are unable to duplicate the issues you are experiencing .................................

It could be worthwhile when out of sync reoccurs to have engineers watch on XXX's TV  checked out TCM HD on XXX office television and XXX noticed the delay--i.e., lack of sync.

Yes, you are so right, Perlyn.  Nothing sadder than to turn to TCM HD and see DAMES with Dick Powell's moving lips not even close to the words he is singing.  Simply awful.

TCM HD audio out of sync here in Chicago. Xfinity. Been out for a couple days now. SD is sync'd. This is a TCM issue I've been seeing off and on now since they started the HD channel.

Yes. Good idea. You're so right. TCM, like nearly everyone else, believes social media is the answer to everything. Perhaps they'll respond to that since they haven't responded to anything else, but we're pretty certain this is a Comcast-created issue (of course). I've started bombarding them and I'm now trying to stir things up on their forum. I started commenting under the topic "MGMHD out of sync" because I couldn't find anything specifically about TCM out of sync - I'm sure it's on there somewhere but I didn't look that hard. I'm not even sure the MGMHD out of sync is the same problem (audio). I haven't ever noticed MGMHD being out of sync and I do watch that channel sometimes.

At any rate, Comcast is the one to bombard. I assume they're on social media too. It would be nice however, if TCM acknowledged this problem and would step in on behalf of its viewing audience. I would think they'd care that their programming is being seriously diminished by the carrier (CC).

I suggest per Dxxx'sx reply from Ms SXXXX if still out of sync Monday Ms SXXX turn on her TV and show an engineer it is out of sync and not due to her HDMI cable.  I just sent Ms XXXX a report that went out of sync again last night and that if not resolved will report to BBB, local TV stations (not that they would care due to Xninity ads all day long.   Can't call  Ms. Sxxxx today due to hours M-F only.    Repeated new complains to Tom KXXXXX may help.  I'm calling Comcast today and demanding a credit for last night due to had to watch Dames on SD 501.

I don't belong to Facebook Twitter but I did notice TCM is on Facebook.
