French Environment Minister Quits In Live Interview: 'World Is Not Doing Enough'

French President Emmanuel Macron assumed the mantle of environmental crusader with a pointed rebuke of the Trump administration: "Make our planet great again," he declared just hours later.

Now, more than a year later, Macron's environment minister has delivered his own stinging rebuke — only this time, it's Macron who came in for the condemnation. Nicolas Hulot stunned the hosts of his live radio interview Tuesday by declaring his resignation in protest of the French president's environmental policy.

"I do not want to lie to myself anymore," Hulot said on France Inter. "I don't want to give the illusion that my presence in government means we're answering these issues properly — and so I have decided to leave the government.".....

prominent green party politician said his choice — the "most difficult decision of my life" — had been steeped in a series of disappointments. Those include the government's recent moves toward relaxing hunting regulations, as well as its apparent reluctance to fulfill a pledge to slash the share of nuclear power in France's electricity supply to 50 percent by 2025.

"Have we started to reduce the use of pesticides? The answer is no," Hulot listed Tuesday. "Have we started to stop the erosion of biodiversity? No. Have we started to stop the artificialization of the land? The answer is no."

In Eastern Germany, The Far-Right Has Found A Foothold

".......official statistics mean little to many eastern German citizens. They don't trust the federal government, which is still struggling to bring the standard of living in the formerly communist region up to par with those in western Germany. Chemnitz, which was called Karl-Marx-Stadt before the Berlin Wall fell, is among many eastern cities that saw their industries collapse after German reunification in 1990.

At the same time, far-right groups are capitalizing on the dwindling trust by spinning facts – if not making up stories altogether.....

This is not surprising in that they have a complete history of totalitarianism starting with Hitler and going right through to the domination of the Soviet Union and the terrorism thrusted upon the citizens by the Stasi.

These people have not seen an example of democracy since the Weirmar Republic, 1919 to 1933, which of course, was an abject failure.

Britain charges two Russians for state-backed plot to kill Skripals

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain charged two Russians in absentia on Wednesday with the attempted murder of a former Russian spy and his daughter, and said the suspects were military intelligence officers almost certainly acting on orders from high up in the Russian state.

British police revealed images of the two men they said had flown to Britain for a weekend in March to kill former spy Sergei Skripal with Novichok, a military-grade nerve agent.

Skripal’s daughter Yulia and a police officer who attended the scene also fell ill in the case, which has caused the biggest East-West diplomatic expulsions since the Cold War. A woman later died from Novichok poisoning after her partner found a counterfeit perfume bottle which police believe had been used to smuggle the nerve agent into Britain.

British authorities identified the suspects as Russian nationals traveling on genuine passports under the aliases Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov. Prime Minister Theresa May told parliament the government had concluded they were officers in Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU.

“The GRU is a highly disciplined organization with a well-established chain of command, so this was not a rogue operation,” May said. “It was almost certainly also approved outside the GRU at a senior level of the Russian state.”

Skripal, himself a former GRU officer who betrayed dozens of agents to Britain’s MI6 foreign spy service, was found unconscious with Yulia on a public bench in the southern English city of Salisbury on March 4.

Russia accuses Britain of 'dirty tricks' over CCTV Gatwick images that show both Novichok hitmen walk through gates at the SAME time... but UK police rubbish claims in an instant

  • Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zhakarova claimed the exact date and time were 'overlaid on the image'
  • The images of the Novichok suspects are timed at the same moment - 16:22:43
  • Russian social media users are mocking Britain over the pictures
  • Police have confirmed the men go through two different gates at the same time
  • Last night Russia accused Britain of tinkering with Gatwick CCTV images of the two alleged Novichok spies.

Pictures show Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov separately walking through gates at the airport.

But the images are timed at the same moment - 16:22:43.

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zhakarova said: 'Either the date and the exact time were overlaid on the image, or the staff of the Russian GRU learned to walk simultaneously - but their images are captured in two different photographs.'

Last night police said the wanted men walk through customs before being faced with a number of automatic gates.
They split up to and each go down a different thin corridor at the same time.

Frequent flyers will know you can't go through the gates together and rather than queuing up in single file you split up and go through different segments.

This is what Petrov and Boshirov do and why the time is exactly the same.

The pictures released by the Metropolitan Police were being mocked on Russian social media.

One said: 'Yes, the corridors (at Gatwick Airport) are different.

The Petrov Pictures

After the pictures of the alleged assailants were published by the Met Polis it was soon noticed that the images of them supposedly arriving at Gatwick were suspicious as they both showed them apparently going through the same spot at the same second – clearly impossible. The response of official sources was to say that they had walked down two parallel corridors in exact synchrony which was why the timestamps were the same.

I downloaded the original images from the metropolitan police site, the metadata on both indicates they were edited at different times on May 3rd, so there is no doubt that they have been altered. Note this is two months after the date shown. The pixel dimensions of the two pictures are different, another telltale sign.

Next, there is the fact that if you mirror image and rotate one image by 11 degrees then the walls, barriers and doors come into alignment. The purported entry channels all have centrally mounted pan-tilt camera units in hemispheres about 10 cm across directly above their exits. Whilst pan and tilt can produce shifts in x and y directions, pan and tilt in azimuth and elevation cannot produce rotation or mirror imaging. Try it with the camera in your phone. To produce rotation of the image you have to rotate the camera around its focal axis. The cameras look similar to the ones below. To produce an 11-degree tilt in the view from one camera you would have to have it hanging down by about an inch and half on the left-hand side of one of the cameras, but the published photos of the cameras show them mounted flush to the ceiling.

Swedish court outrages pro-Jewish groups by nixing deportation of Palestinian arsonist

Sweden’s court decision to overturn the expulsion of a Palestinian convicted of firebombing a local Synagogue has provoked a fierce reaction from Israel and pro-Jewish groups that called it a legitimization of anti-Semitism.

The Court of Appeals for Western Sweden has overruled another court’s decision concerning a deportation of a Palestinian man, who was earlier convicted of staging an arson attack on a synagogue in the city of Gothenburg. The man was sentenced to two years and prison and expulsion over what was classified as a hate crime, the Swedish media reported.

While upholding the prison sentence, the court of appeals still said that, since the perpetrator could be “perceived as a threat to other Jews” and Israel “might have an interest in the matter,”Sweden “cannot secure the man’s fundamental human rights” in case of his deportation to Palestine.

The convicted Palestinian has been previously granted asylum in the Nordic country.

The decision immediately provoked angry response from some Israeli officials.

The court has shown blatant ignorance regarding Israel’s independent Judiciary that has gained international reputation, Ilan Ben-Dov, Israel’s ambassador to Sweden said in a Facebook post as he maintained that “Israel is a democratic country, based on Rule of Law.”

The envoy slammed the court ruling by calling it a highly prejudicial and politicized verdict,” which excuses, and therefore legitimizes, the actions of a violent Anti-Semite as acceptable political criticism. Israel's Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon also lambasted the court’s decision by saying that this “shameful verdict gives legitimacy to violent anti-Semitism and defames the State of Israel.”

Anti-Islam book becomes German bestseller less than two weeks after release

A new book highly critical of Islam and Muslims has been flying off the shelves in Germany to become a non-fiction bestseller. Mainstream media panned it for a simplistic approach to the religion.

The controversial book titled “Hostile Takeover: How Islam Impedes Progress and Threatens Society” reached the number one spot on Der Spiegel’s non-fiction list after being on the market for less than a fortnight. It’s a critique of Islam as a religion, which the author sees as detrimental to people sharing it, based on a literal reading of the Koran.

Written by one-time SPD politician and former member of the executive board of the Bundesbank, Thilo Sarrazin, the work comes eight years after Sarrazin’s previous take on Muslims titled “Germany Abolishes Itself”. Focusing on what he called a failure of multiculturalism policies, that book accused Arab and Turkish immigrants of “dumbing down” the German society, and shifted 1.5 million copies.

Speaking ahead of the release of his latest work last month, Sarrazin proclaimed that “everything has been worse than I predicted eight years ago.”

The release of “Hostile Takeover” comes during a period of heightened tensions in Germany, with much public attention focused crimes committed by immigrants. It was started by the murder of a man in the city of Chemnitz in August, which triggered massive anti-immigration protests in parts of the country with violent clashes erupting between left and right-wing demonstrators.

Statues of Nazi-saluting wolves appear in Chemnitz, Germany amid far-right & counter demos

Under the eyes of Chemnitz’s Karl Marx statue, the sight of snarling bronze wolves with their right paws outstretched seems out of place. However, the artist behind the work hopes it will spark a “discussion” in German politics.

Titled “the wolves are back?,” the installation features ten bronze statues of aggressive-looking wolves, many with their right paws outstretched as if they are doing a Hitler salute. Others, meanwhile, are blindfolded.

Describing his work as a “political vigil,” artist Rainer Opolka’s installation in Chemnitz comes two weeks after the death of a German man, allegedly killed by two migrants, sparked protests and rioting in the city.

“Some people in Chemnitz did the Hitler salute and, what is more, they hunted foreigners through the city,” Opolka explained to RT’s video agency Ruptly.

“Therefore I am standing here [to say] democrats should not tolerate this.”

Banners accompanying the statues hark back to Germany’s own troubled history of Nazism, with one warning: “Where one is hunted, one is later stepped on.”

Another takes aim at the right-wing political party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the anti-Islam group PEGIDA, accusing them of using hate to gain popularity. A third sign, however, takes a more even-handed approach, condemning all violence.

Both the AfD and PEGIDA have seen a surge in popularity amid growing criticism and anxiety among Germans over Chancellor Angela Merkel's open-door policy of accepting migrants and refugees fleeing war in the Middle East.

Opolka’s goal of bringing people “into a discussion” about the issues Germany appears to have already been achieved as of Thursday, with crowds gathering to look at the work and talk to the artist.
