Trudeau: I Didn't Come To Washington To Lecture President Trump

Justin Trudeau: "The last thing Canadians expect is for me to come down and lecture another country on how they choose to govern," he said. "My role... is to continue to govern in such a way that reflects Canadians' approach and be a positive example in the world."

Diplomatic as Trudeau's response was, one can still see a sly dig at Trump's America first style with his second sentence.

Trump's hand is on top in the handshake, trying to show physical dominance, but Justin Trudeau had reached out first and quickly gotten close to Trump, refusing to let him pull him into him. (Remember that ten hour handshake with the Japanese prime minister which Trump dominated?) Body language experts say Trudeau held his own with the President in their initial meeting.

The fact that Trump indicated he had admired Justin's father may be an indication that the son gets a bit of a pass with him that he might not have otherwise. Justin was all diplomacy yesterday in Washington, but he can also be a scrapper, like his father. One of his favourite past times has been boxing.

Trudeau Tells Europeans: Trump ‘Gets Things Done’

Sounding like a voice from the President Donald Trump’s administration, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday that he was impressed with Trump during their meeting this week in Washington.

“What I saw from the American president was a focus on getting things done for the people who supported him and who believe in him, while demonstrating that good relations with one’s neighbors is a great way of getting things done,” said Trudeau.

What else should he have said?  He's a politician.  I'm sure he thinks he is just a buffoon like the rest of the people in the world with a smidgen of a brain.

Trudeau Gives Preference to Islam over all other Religions in Canada

A headline that is a total lie and pure hate crap. Jake spreading his poison once again.

The author of this article's viewpoint is best summarized here:

This is a dangerous piece of proposed legislation.

In my opinion, a law that specifically condemns Islamophobia violates the spirit and substance of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms which are embedded in our Canadian constitution.

In other words, the right to publicly express your hatred of others based on race or religion (no matter what the consequences).

The election of Donald Trump has emboldened bigots to crawl out from underneath rocks and openly take stands of this nature to fight a proposed legislation designed to protect a minority. What miserable times we live in.

Typical cowardly Jake - expressing his own prejudice while hiding behind the words of others.

FOR GOD'S SAKE, WE JUST HAD THE MURDER OF SIX MUSLIMS IN A QUEBEC CITY MOSQUE BY A MAN WHO WOULD APPLAUD THIS ARTICLE!

Decades of dumping raw sewage is killing Victoria's ocean floor, diver claims

A commercial diver is claiming that decades of dumping raw sewage off Victoria's coast is slowly killing its surrounding ocean beds.

Allan Crow, a fisherman, commercial diver and member of the Victoria Sewage Treatment Alliance, has been diving in these waters for 35 years.

"I've observed over a long period of time ... subtle changes. It has escalated for sure in the last 10-15 years."

Crow claims these changes are a result of the decades-long practice of raw sewage from Victoria and the surrounding area being dumped directly into the ocean.

Trudeau: No, we won’t be stopping illegal border crossings. Why do you ask?

The other day we looked at a somewhat amusing story of people illegally crossing the border from the United States into Canada. The numbers remain only a tiny trickle compared to the flow of illegal aliens coming into the United States across our southern border, but the trend should still be worrying for Canadians. Or at least so you would think.

Another piece of right wing propaganda.  More people are now going back to Mexico than there are coming north.  But that wouldn't play well with the hide under your bed crowd who like to believe that everything is a disaaaaaster!  Trump loves the undedicated and the gullible.

The trickle of refugees fleeing the U.S. to Canada could become a deluge in the spring

And with so many migrants willing to traipse through the ice and snow to reach Canada, there are concerns that numbers could soar with the advent of spring. “Will we be facing down our own mini-Greece or mini-Italy moment? What are we going to see when the snow melts?” Kurl asks.

But the Conservative Party says the Trudeau government isn’t doing enough to protect “the integrity of our border,” said Conservative MP Michelle Rempel. She wants the government to make it clear that crossing the border outside official crossings is “illegal and unsafe” and to take further action if the situation deteriorates.

“I have this feeling that we’re going to see big numbers coming across once the weather gets better,” said Greg Janzen, the reeve — the equivalent of a mayor — of Emerson, Manitoba, a small town on the border with North Dakota that has seen growing numbers of asylum seekers.

The arrivals were once simply a weekend phenomenon, but refugees are now turning up on a daily basis. “We had six this morning,” Janzen said Wednesday. “I think they walked up to the hotel. They kept them in the lobby until the RCMP came.”

Make Canada great again? Conservative Canucks chart course for the age of Trump

The agenda included sessions on “Islamic extremism”, freedom of religion and the challenge of being a young conservative on campus. There were talks on the national debt and dismantling the state broadcaster. Speakers contemplated whether it was time to do away with elites – and whether “Trumpism” could be exported to Canada.

The conference agenda, said Conservative strategist Tim Powers, comes down to a question being asked by the party: “Are we immune from or are we infected by whatever it is that happened in Britain with Brexit and happened in America with Trump?”

The question comes at a moment when the Conservatives in Canada are at a crossroads. 2015 saw Justin Trudeau and the Liberal party sweep into a majority government, bringing an abrupt end to nine years of Conservative power. The party has since been focused on choosing a new leader among 14 contenders who offer wildly varying views on what’s next for the party.

On the less political avenue(maybe), what's the story with  7 year old GRAYSON POWELL having his kid's bowling team disqualified from being awarded their trophy for winning a tournament beause his PANTS weren't "black enough"?

A dress code for the league states that all kids must wear black pants, and the kid showed up in FADED black jeans.  Could have been that the kid's parents couldn't AFFORD to buy him new jeans just to wear in a bowling tournament, I don't know.  But the kid bowled a 171!  That's pretty damned GOOD for a 7 year old.  Hell, when I was that age, I could barely HANDLE a bowling ball.

This all happened somewhere in Ontario.

Don't miss Fareed's show on CNN tomorrow ... Has the American Dream Moved North.

I watched this program, as Fareed Zakara interviewed Scott Gilmore, a former Canadian diplomat and now columnist, who calls himself a conservative free market advocate. Gilmore supplied some interesting statistics and comments comparing Canadians to Americans.

COLLEGE DEGREE

Canada      59%

U.S.A.        46%

HOME OWNERSHIP RATE

Canada       68%

U.S.A.         63%

LIFE EXPECTANCY

Canada        81.2

U.S.A.         78.7

Cato Institute's HUMAN FREEDOM INDEX

Canada        6th in the world

U.S.A.          23rd in the world

Heritage Foundation's ECONOMIC FREEDOM

Canada        7th in the world

U.S.A.         17th in the world

Reporters Without Borders PRESS FREEDOM INDEX

Canada         18th in the world

U.S.A.           41st in the world

JUDICIAL COURT SYSTEMS

The average American is 6 times more likely to be incarcerated than the average Canadian.

Gilmore said that Canadians have easier access to higher education, and are not going bankrupt with their health care system.

The Horacio Alger pull yourself up by the bootstraps ethos so prided by Americans is easier to do in Canada. Canadians born into a lower strata of society have a better chance of moving up economically than Americans.

On the minus side, Canada's indigenous populations (comprising 5% of the population) are still doing horribly, without the same access to health care or universities. While Gilmore didn't mention it, they also comprise a disproportionately large part of the Canadian penal system. Canada still has much to do here to right the many wrongs regarding these people.

Gilmore, when asked for the nation's response to the Trump election, said "Canadians have reacted with fascination and horror, and not a little bit of smugness."
