Vautrin
Okay Vautrin! Whaddaya tryin' to do here? Make Jake REALLY mad with this bit of information or somethin'???!!! (...I mean maybe he didn't already know this, and MAYBE you should learn to just let sleeping dogs lie, as they say!!!) LOL Well, there's an escape hatch here. The song was written by a black man. OTOH, he was a black guy from up north, New York to be specific. How about a rousing chorus of this one, which also contains the work "darkey" in one verse. History can be strange.: Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee! Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free! So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea While we were marching through Georgia. LawrenceA
Florida also has an official state song that had it's lyrics changed, but the whole thing is sung in a pidgin slave dialect, and it's about an old slave longing for the days of the plantation. Stay classy, Florida! "Old Folks at Home", by Stephen Foster, 1851 Way down upon de Swanee Ribber,Far, far away,Dere's wha my heart is turning ebber,Dere's wha de old folks stay. All up and down de whole creationSadly I roam,Still longing for de old plantation,And for de old folks at home.ChorusAll de world am sad and dreary,Eb-rywhere I roam;Oh, darkeys, how my heart grows weary,Far from de old folks at home!2nd verseAll round de little farm I wanderedWhen I was young,Den many happy days I squandered,Many de songs I sung. When I was playing wid my brudderHappy was I;Oh, take me to my kind old mudder!Dere let me live and die.3rd VerseOne little hut among de bushes,One dat I loveStill sadly to my memory rushes,No matter where I rove. When will I see de bees a-hummingAll round de comb? When will I hear de banjo strumming,Down in my good old home? mr6666
After weeks of debate, Canadian lawmakers have passed legislation to legalize physician-assisted death..... The Canadian government introduced the bill in April and it passed a final Senate vote Friday. It includes strict criteria that patients must meet to obtain a doctor's help in dying. As we have reported, a patient must: "Be eligible for government-funded health care (a requirement limiting assisted suicides to Canadians and permanent residents, to prevent suicide tourism)." "Be a mentally competent adult 18 or older." "Have a serious and incurable disease, illness or disability." "Be in an 'advanced state of irreversible decline,' with enduring and intolerable suffering." http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/06/18/482599089/canada-legalizes-physician-assisted-dying?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20160618

At the end, the members rose in a thunderous, standing ovation and chanted "Four More Years!" If only it were possible.

I don't know about the accuracy of this report. It's difficult to initially deal with a blaring headline until enough time has passed to possibly discover the true facts behind the story. But, to me, this story has the stench of conservative media hate propaganda about it, especially since I'm having difficulty find any similar reports from the mainstream media. Have a nice day. Yes, I know, Jake, the Liberal media that "can't be trusted." It will be interesting to see if this article has any legs to it. Or is it just going to be another one day wonder. If it lasts for just a day or two, so much for the "truth." I heard that there were stories in Britain of immigrants attacking British women during the BREXIT referendum, too. It's a very familiar pattern of propaganda that the right wing likes to employ, stoking fears in an uncertain segment of society. Thank God in America Donald Trump is above doing anything of that nature, eh, Jake?

But I couldn't help notice that a big news item up here a few days ago at the height of the US Dallas shootings coverage was kids playing street hockey and what should be done about it.
