TRUMPISM IN CANADA

Recommended Posts

Canadians favour screening would-be immigrants for ‘anti-Canadian’ values, poll shows

More importantly for Leitch, the poll shows that the idea is especially popular among Conservative supporters with 87 per cent backing the idea and just 8 per cent opposed compared to 57 per cent support among Liberals and 59 per cent for New Democrat voters.

That’s certain to be the reason that Leitch (Simcoe-Grey) proposed the idea — and has stuck by it in the face of criticism, said Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research.

“If you’re going after the base, this is like red meat for them. They’re going to love this,” he said Friday. “This is hitting the nail right on the head.”

But it has drawn flak, even from among Conservatives, who have sought to distance themselves from Leitch’s stance. Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose said she doesn’t support the idea. Fellow Ontario MP Michael Chong, also contesting the leadership, said the suggestion that some immigrants are anti-Canadian “does not represent our Conservative party or our Canada.”

In Conservative circles, there are fears it could be damaging to the party brand, stirring memories of the controversial “barbaric cultural practices” snitch line that Leitch unveiled during the last federal election campaign.

And although Leitch’s proposal may play well among Conservative supporters, Bozinoff said, it could undermine the party’s efforts to broaden its support.

“They build these huge walls around themselves like a stockade and barricade themselves in and make it hard for anyone to join them,” he said.

Note:

The majority of Canadians sanely rejected Stephen Harper's anti-Muslim/fear of immigrants dog whistles in the October, 2015 election, though the Conservative base stayed loyal to the party. Leitch, running for party leadership, is largely appealing to that same party base.

Same old, same old. Don't get too excited, Jake.

I'm sure that you will continue to scour the headlines, copying and pasting lurid right wing internet articles here about immigrant "crime" in Canada, stories the mainstream media doesn't mention and which seem to strangely disappear after a day or so never to see the light of day again. So much energy spent on hate and fear mongering.

So, the REAL "net change" - since we've lost over 100,000 jobs since junior took over - is about NEGATIVE 74,000. (almost half of this is in Liberal Ontario ... hmmmm)

Now that he's giving away all our jobs to China - expect this to drop further.

New taxes (cap and trade - which hasn't worked anywhere) are coming!

Come on now all you Liberal supporters, you didn't REALLY think things would be better for you with this lot in power did you?

Who the heck is Tim Sarant?

Some random schmo in an internet comments section. As anyone who's anyone knows, that's the font of true wisdom. After all, if you read it on the internet, "people are talking about it", "I'm seeing this on the internet", "It's been reported", all of those sources of secret knowledge that Trump likes to quote.

Wynne Launches Petition Against... Herself?

Perhaps the Liberals have noticed the tens of thousands of signatures on other petitions protesting the high hydro rates they caused. Googling hydro rate petitions will yield the existing province-wide petition launched by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, and countless local petitions to municipalities. Perhaps Premier Wynne just wants to join in on the fun by launching her own hydro rate petition, since they’re proving so popular.

They could also launch a petition to stop the new cap-and-trade tax on home heating and gasoline, which is going to take effect the same day as the hydro HST rebate, and will cost you more than the rebate will save you. The government predicts the HST rebate will save you about $130, while the new tax on home heating and gasoline will cost you between $156 and $387. The Liberals will be happy to know that petitions against this new tax are already quite popular, with thousands of signatures on the petition launched by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Making America Great Again’ not welcome on Canadian Campus

By Judi McLeod —— Bio and Archives September 16, 2016
They live in a country whose Liberal Government only last week made calling ISIS Daesh official, but some students at Mount Royal University in Calgary are afraid of a baseball cap bearing the words “Make America Great Again”.

Just wearing the cap somehow threatens “safe spaces” so a female student claiming that the cap’s message stands for “hate language” loudly insisted in a sustained confrontation with a male cap-wearing student that he “must” take it off.

Few would have known about the confrontation had someone not posted a video of the altercation online.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as accessory to Aboriginal suicides
alexander101616.jpg
Many remote settlements resemble the apartheid—era Bantustans of South Africa. Trudeau must have read Mowat, and he had one wake-up call in January 2016, when a distressed and bullied student killed two teachers and two fellow students: “The country’s heart is breaking for the people of La Loche, Saskatchewan today,” he said at the time.

Marxists still looking for the way to compromise Tuesday’s election

"Just like the peace promising protesters out on the streets, the tattered remains of the Obama/Clinton/globalist elite cabal wanted We the people to think their lame duck leader Obama just wants a smooth transition for Trump and his elated-since-early-Wednesday-morning masses."

A number of people to whom I have spoken in the Toronto area have looked upon the Trump victory with a head shaking horror. What makes those Americans tick (or, at least, the Trump supporters) being a common reaction. Polls show 70% of Canadians disapprove of him.

But Canadians can't sit back with a smug air of moral superiority thinking that the same thing couldn't happen here. Yes, we just elected Justin Trudeau and the Liberals a year ago, removing the Conservatives from power after ruling federally for almost a decade. And, as we all saw in the news Trudeau and Obama had a major bromance going between them (as did their wives, apparently).

But now Trudeau is going to have to find all his abilities at political flexibility in order to get along with the new cowboy in town.

Aside from that, Torontonians know only too well the allure of populist politicians since, much to the horror of many of the city, we had one ruling here a short while ago. Rob Ford was a silver-spoon-in-the-mouth millionaire who presented himself, with great success, as a man of the people. He railed against the political establishment elites, as well as the "liberal" media (even though he had some conservative media supporting him).

Clinton won in the big cities, while Trump largely won in the small states and in the sticks. Ford won in the suburbs of Toronto, while the downtown core of the city wanted nothing to do with him. But those suburb followers (nicknamed "Ford Nation") treated him like one of them. No matter what Ford's many politically incorrect blunders (like drug use and crude language, at one point making reference to his wife's private parts in public) may have been, they forgave him. They would forgive him anything because he represented a middle finger to all the political "elites" who had ruled the city for years and, they felt, ignored them.

It was cancer that took Rob Ford away, not a political defeat (his brother replaced him in the Toronto mayoralty election and did very well as a populist, even though he lost the election to Toronto's current mayor). Ford's brother has often proudly compared his brother to Trump, and he has a very valid point.

The world, and much of the American media, laughed at Rob Ford, just as it initially laughed at Donald Trump. It isn't laughing any more.

Trump's success will encourage other Canadian politicians of a populist stripe to appeal to the anti-immigration fears and biases to be found in many Canadians. There is currently a leadership race of the federal Conservatives (to replace Stephen Harper). One of those running, Kellie Leitch, has been trying to sound like Trump regarding fears of immigrants.

Right now few think Leitch will become Conservative leader. But then few thought Trump would become the Republican standard bearer.

Canada does not have a history of the hard right politics that distinguishes American politics but there is a populist sentiment in western Europe and the USA that cannot be ignored. Canada could become a part of that sweep itself, I suspect. Trudeau and the Liberals will govern until the 2019 election, a long way away, to be sure. There is plenty of time for Trump to further tarnish his brand.

But Trump's victory (even though he didn't win the popular vote) still shows that anything can happen. Canadians cannot become complacent that we will not one day have an equivalent of him ruling in our House of Commons.

Trumpism is alive in Canada

Ditto for leadership candidate Chris Alexander who recently criticized Leitch for “importing” the anger south of the border into Canada. The thought apparently never entered his pointy little elitist head there are Canadians that are angry about the way Trudeau and the Liberals are trying to erase all vestiges of what used to be known as Canadian culture.

So far Leitch is holding firm. She told CTV she is not a racist but is not concerned that some real racists will support her. She just has this notion, considered silly by the elites, that people who come to Canada should be vetted and have face-to-face interviews with immigration officers before they are allowed to enter the country.

What Does Black Activism Look Like Today In Canada?

Hudson on racism in Canada:

In Canada, there's this myth of this country being this place that people ran away to be free and it's this haven. Maybe there's some problems in this community but just work hard and you'll be fine.

People need to understand telling that history, in that way, is a myth. This multicultural haven is non-existent and the effects of colonization on indigenous people and black people across the Americas and beyond has affected all black people in a negative way.

Hudson on one word to describe the future of black activism in Canada:

Revolution. When I say revolution, I think we really need to look at how society is structured because these Band-Aid solutions, it's not good enough. It's not going to bring on this revolution that we're talking about.
