limey
FRIDAY NIGHT AND THE SPAMMERS ARE TAKING OVER GENERAL DISCUSSIONS AGAIN Looks like they've figured out the times when the mods are slowest to mop up the mess. Spammy site is registered with the same registrar as the ones from the previous Korean Spam Fairy visitations. I wonder if this forum software could create a limit on the number of new threads created by a single (esp a new) user within a given period of time? What legitimate user would post 4 pages of blerrgh topics in so short a time?
GGGGerald
For all the trouble they went through to overhaul this site, you would think it wouldn't be so hard to implement a limit to threads one can start in a day. Say five or three or whatever number they think would work. Three spam threads wouldn't totally shut things down. And if that didn't work, it would help.

Kid Dabb
I may regret bringing this up, but... I noticed the lack of heavy duty SPAM today. Could this respite be due to their schedule or, possibly (dare I hope...), our site ADMIN's discovery of Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet? The latter, I hope.

Kid Dabb
I think something good is happening. Second day with no noticeable SPAM (other than the odd individual). I'm going to assume our hosts have indeed found Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet. YAYYY!!! ... and thank you all for your efforts!

LornaHansonForbes
I know this is a little bit off topic, but have any of you noticed on other sites that you visit, the sidebar links to other news stories and ads have started containing "hidden" advertisements made to look like interviews or first hand accounts that contain absolutely outlandish and irresponsible lies about celebrities? A few weeks back, I saw one that said "Celine Dion: why I chose to divorce Renee (her husband.)" It was a link to an ad for vitamin pills, that had absolutely nothing to do with Celine Dion and in fact her marriage was fine, or at least it was up until a week ago when her husband actually died. And then today, I saw one that said "BREAKING NEWS!: saying goodbye to an icon, Sylvester Stallone." It totally made it look like Sylvester Stallone had died and it was a news story, only it wasn't it was an advertisement for energy supplements.... and as far as I know Sly is still in the mortal coil. I mean this is some really tacky stuff? Imagine if somebody was impugning your marriage or spreading fake death hoax about you as a way to sell makeup or vitamins? How in the hell is this legal? And perhaps I should have mentioned, the sites I am seeing these links to all legitimate (well, maybe mainstream is a better word ) sites like the Huffington Post, slate.com and gawker.com did also have news stories of their own and legitimate advertisements mixed in with these bogus, awful, lying ads. Anyone else seen thesr?
LawrenceA
LHF, yes, I've seen those kind of ads for quite a while now. It's all click-bait garbage. It used to be weird or silly pictures, or nearly-R-rated cheesecake and beefcake shots of celebs or over-endowed anonymous people. Lately it's been more outright false and shocking headlines or inflammatory political or social rhetoric. Whatever it takes to get you to click.

BingFan
I just received two identical Russian SPAM messages in my PM. That is a first. I reported them. I received four of these same messages. Perhaps it was a coincidence, but the spam messages came each time I posted something to the Message Boards this morning -- as if my posting automatically triggered the spam transmission. It'll be interesting to see if I get another spam message after I post this message.

limey
Okay, so now the spam thread titles have words in them that are censored. Ah ha! Finally, some pertinent spam for a movie forum - a 'product' to enhance your s*t*a*r*s *=stars, geddit? No? Ok, I'll get my coat... At the very, least this is one act of censorship that I can approve of!
