Does anyone know why some fine films are released in Mother England--and Germany and France--but not here. I am told the WILD RIVER release is finally coming here (beautiful print). But FIVE FINGERS, MAN OF THE WEST, TWO FOR THE SEESAW, BITTER TEA OF GENERAL YEN, ALL I DESIRE, DOUBLE INDEMNITY (!!!!!!!), EL CID, THE KEY (carol reed), OUR MAN IN HAVANA, THE HEAT'S ON (MAE WEST), SOLOMON AND SHEBA, TRAPEZE and others too many to list all available in REGION 2 European releases. Does a company buy rights to these in certain areas for a certain time period?? also, GARDEN OF EVIL with a great Herrmann score. and ALL the Hal Roach LAUREL AND HARDYS in a gorgeous box set.

In my case, I have a multizone player that also "converts norm", in other words, I can watch PAL DVDs with my regular NTSC TV. But, on the other hand, the DVD's in Germany, France and UK tend to be more expensive.

I looked for "Bitter Tea..." on the web...and sadly it's not being sold individually but as part of a Set "Barbara Stanwyck- Screen Goddess Box Set" which also includes Golden Boy, All I Desire, Double Indemnity, Miracle Woman and Lady Eve, but of course it costs lots of dough..37 Pounds at Amazon.UK, plus shipping and handling, which is worth over 80 dollars!!

And besides it's released by an unknown "4 Front Video" Company, which I don't know. No reviews there, no ratings, how can one know the quality of the transfers? Also some of the films featured are Paramounts, another is Universal and others are Columbia, so that makes me doubtful about its quality too!!!

You can set a DVD-Rom drive 5 times before it locks. There are PC programs that jimmy it, but I'm not sure about them (I'm on a Mac). They're everywhere though, I think I saw one at an Office Depot.

A region-free player is a better choice, especially one that appropriately displays anamorphic PAL discs.
