Hitchcock's Gray Suit Proclivities

Enjoyed the Hitchcock extravaganza, though wish so many of those I wanted to see were on so late.

Anyway, is it me, or did Mr. Hitchcock have a real thing for blondes in gray suits (rather ugly gray suits, at that)?

Commentary was even made in reference to Kim Novak wanting to wear a brighter color, but was shot down in favor of the gray suit.

In every film I started to pay attention to following this, the lead female wears a gray suit at some point in the film. Janet Leigh wore one to work, Grace Kelly, Tippi Hedrin - even in some of the earlier English movies there were women who appeared to be in gray suits.

Or am I the victim of an over-active imagination? When the film is in black and white I suppose the suits are going to appear gray! Still, I think Hitch had some thinking behind placing blonde women into gray suits and am curious just why that might be?
