path40a
Every year at about this time, one is inundated with top 10 lists from the previous year?s film releases. Since I rarely go and see new movie releases anymore, these magazines or programs rarely capture my interest. However, I did watch nearly 600 films in 2005, most of which were recorded via Tivo (or VCR) from TCM or rented via Netflix (yes, I do own a DVD player). So, I decided to compile my own ?top 10 lists? for 2005, and I?d encourage you to do the same and share them with us by contributing to this thread. It might be fun! The lists (by genre) below reflect my 2005 viewing ONLY. Though I was tempted to throw in some of the many great classics I?ve seen over the years OR watched again (e.g. for the second time, etc.) last year, I?ve excluded these from my lists. If you?re curious about my overall classic movie tastes, these can be found in my website?s Essential Films section. FYI, the films in each category are listed in the (chronological) order I watched them. My favorites were Lon Chaney?s, Greta Garbo?s, Buster Keaton?s and Harold Lloyd?s films, but you?ll also find some Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Ramon Novarro, and even an Ernst Lubitsch directed silent listed below as well. Laugh, Clown, Laugh (1928) The Student Prince of Old Heidelberg (1927) Ace of Hearts (1921) Ben-Hur (1925) Cops (1922) The Scarecrow (1920) The Navigator (1924) Sherlock Jr. (1924) Show People (1928) Flesh and the Devil (1926) Scaramouche (1923) Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) Dr. Jack (1922) The Patsy (1928) He Who Gets Slapped (1924) My Best Girl (1927) Tess of the Storm Country (1922) The Unknown (1927) The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) Love (1927) The Kiss (1929) The King of Kings (1927) Girl Shy (1924) Grass (1925) La Boheme (1926) If you?re familiar with my site, you know that I watch & review A LOT of B movies for my Obscure Films section. In fact, I viewed and reviewed almost 200 of these in 2005. By my definition (found on my website?s homepage), few of these qualify as classics. However, that doesn?t mean that I didn?t find several gems among those I saw, the best of which were: They Won?t Believe Me (1947) - a Film-Noir (which may not technically qualify as a B picture) Gentle Annie (1944) - a Western Sing and Like It (1934) - a Comedy Tish (1942) - a Comedy/Drama Turn Back the Clock (1933) - a Comedy/Drama The Great Mr. Nobody (1941) - a Comedy Sins of the Children (1930) - a Drama A Stranger in Town (1943) - a Drama
bansi4
Wow, Path, this is an impressive listing of motion pictures. It appears that many of them were featured on TCM too. I can't say that I've seen all of them although at least half of them including some favorites listed here, especially "Stage Door", "A Letter to Three Wives", "Oliver Twist", "White Banners", "Night Must Fall", "Kind Lady", "Lifeboat", "The Devil and Miss Jones", "The More the Merrier", "Ball of Fire", "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", "On Borrowed Time", etc. Very interesting and I appreciate your efforts.
