nickdimeo
I happened to mention how I hate the "new" Movie News feature (during commercials on TCM) inside another topic on this website. The few people that responded also found the Movie News to be rather irritating. So I decided to make a whole new topic on this subject and find out what the rest of TCM's fans have to say about this rather long, and stupid new feature to TCM. At no time should I be able to turn TCM on and see Catherine Zeta Jones, Queen Latfiah, or any new Hollywood star's face on my TCM! I happen to hate change, so let's hope TCM drops this feature and shows more of the in between features that all of us have come to love (One Reel Wonders, 100 Years of Hollywood, Previews of old movies, etc.)
ladysusanvance
Or how about maybe some good ol' cartoons? I've said it before, but I hate the "Movie News" feature so much, I'll say it again. . . Yuck!
bansi4
The new feature Movie News ain't so bad. If you notice most of the previews revolve around films of nostalgia ala "Chicago" and most recently Ricardo Montalban. Also news of vintage films coming to DVD such as "Mildred Pierce", "All About Eve", "Gentlemans Agreement" etc. Its safe to say that TCM is keeping within their format. itsoshoko
I happen to dislike much of the "Movie News," but not the point of hurling my TV out of the window. I like the books, DVDs (Last month's at least, not this Spy Kids 2 stuff), and a little of the theatre. I am also glad that they haven't decided to advertise the movies that are of no interest to fans of clasic movies (i.e. Adam Sandler movies or other crapstravaganzas), but movies that have a link to the past (i.e. Roman Polanski and how could they not advertise Ted Turner). I do wish they would show it less and show the 100 years of movies, trailers, word of mouth, etc.
moviejoe79
I too hate the movie news segment. I wouldn't mind them telling us of the new DVD releases of classic films, and book releases as well, but they go too far with the showcasing of new films. I don't care if they do have some sort of link to the classic era, we have them shoved down our throats on every other station, and in every other form of media - it is not for TCM - they are the crown jewel among T.V. stations - they are so well put together that other stations should emulate them - not the other way around. And as for "Word of Mouth," I'd love to see some new ones - there are dozens of golden age stars still with us with hundreds of stories - lets hear 'em! bansi4
It's safe to say that the spot grew on me. I look forward every month to hearing that gal (nice voice) tell me all about the classic films out on DVDs and the nostalgic books that are available (which I occasionally order) and the snippets of pictures and video are a plus. It's not so bad keeping up with current news of whats available out there. Mongo
stellabluegrl
I don't have a problem with the movie news segments. Like Mongo, I also enjoy finding out which classics have been released on DVD and what the book of the month is. I also don't mind when the occasional "new" star or movie is in the segment. I will admit though, toward the end of every month I'm pretty damn tired of seein' the sucker.
leobertucelli
Cartons are fine IF they were made by Warner Bros and not the Disney variety. My teeth hurt with some of the Disney output to the extent my teeth hurt! Leo
moviejoe79
I gotta say, the spot grew on me too - I still don't like that lady's voice - it's too manly - but, the information is great, and it's nice to hear what they have to say since it DOES revolve around our world of classic film.
