Dow Jones has tremendous gain-highest ever.  Any relation to Sanders' endorsement of Clinton?  Or is just the success of Obama's economic programs?

"Donald Trump was hoping that Bernie Sanders would help him win by attacking Hillary Clinton and fighting at the Democratic convention. Sen. Sanders was never going to give Trump an opening to win the election. Trump has mistaken the usual disgruntled far left that hates anyone who they deem not progressive enough for a viable bloc of voters who could power him to victory.

The small gang never Clinton holdouts are dwarfed by the Sanders supporters who don’t want to see Donald Trump be elected the next president. The never Hillary crowd isn’t going to vote for Trump. Many of them will vote for Jill Stein and the Green Party..."

The real reason why Trump is throwing a fit is that his only chance of winning the election just went down the tubes. A Clinton/Sanders one-two punch is going to knock out the presumptive GOP nominee, because while Donald Trump is a billionaire who pretends to be a populist, Bernie Sanders is the real deal...."

Trump's 10 point plan to improve the VA doesn't actually say what he would do, much less how he would pay for it.  It is just another listing of problem areas that everyone knows about, but that the Republicans in Congress will not authorize sufficient funding for improvements.

More vague adjectives from a guy who avoided any kind of military service when his peers were either volunteering or being drafted.

A "Hot Line" in the White House for veterans would require a totally new bureacracy of its own at a very high cost and eliminate that funding from the VA itself.  And what would it accomplish?  NOTHING!  Veterans can already call their Congress person or call the VA itself.  Another bureaucratic layer is not a help, but if Trump knew anything about government, he would know that.

Going to private medical sources is fine, but who will pay for it?  Since the source is private, will they be interested in a veteran or just see him/her as another "welfare" patient to be taken care of and bill the government, if they see veterans at all.  Furthermore, they will not really be familiar with all the potential medical problems a veteran may have or how to treat them.

It is the first step toward privitization.

Any veteran who buys into this "plan" needs to seriously reconsider.

There are about 20 million vets in US, 7 mil. from Vietnam era, 1 mil from WW  II, 4 mil. with service connected disabilities.  So potentially, 20 million people could call the White House at any given time, not to mention spouses/caregivers.

If just those with sc disabilities called, it would still overwhelm the "Hot Line" at the White House.  To serve all veterans, Pres. Trump, the VP and all of their staffs would have to move out of the White House so there would be room for all the "humans" needed to answer the phone calls.  Not to mention the millions of dollars that would be diverted from the VA to fund his "Hot Line."

And who would the Hot Line person call?  The current VA people.  Now they might have a special number and be able to get through quicker, but they would be clogging the system and delaying services to other veterans.

Just another example of how totally out of touch with reality Trump is.

Trump could always outsource the hotline to the Philippines or India.

Build the Wall. Keep 'em out. Round 'em up. Ship 'em out. Bad ones, wipe 'em out.

I'm not surprised to see Trump ahead in IA, even if it's still early and the margin is slim.  More telling is that Grassley is, at this point, comfortably ahead of the establishment Dem. running against him.  While there had been some speculation recently that he may be in danger of losing his Senate seat, I don't see him losing this time to that particular candidate.

More like the one-act Kid Who Burped At the Table when he found out even his worst enemies would support him anyway every time he played the Raise Funds For Veterans card...

He stated it would be answered by a "human" in the White House.

Just occured to me he didn't say what White House.  Maybe he plans to build a Trump White House in China or somewhere to handle all the governmental stuff and he will build a Trump White House in the Carribbean or change name of Mar-a-Lago to Trump White House.  Then he can sell or sublet the current White House.  After all, would he really want to live in DC and have media reporting every time he takes a vacation?

Another option is to raze the White House and build a driving range in the middle of D.C.

Heck no, and he's not crazy about the Washington Post anyway.

Democratic Convention Host Gov. Ed Rendell: Trump Is Right on Trade, China

“All that Donald Trump says isn’t wrong… He’s right about China,” Rendell, a Clinton supporter, said in an interview on SiriusXM’s The Dean Obeidallah Show. “We have, for some reason, not stood up to China. We’ve allowed them to manipulate their currency, which gives their businesses tremendous advantage in selling to America. They came in here and tried to dump low-priced, subsidized steel pipe to get rid of the steel pipe industry in the U.S.”

When asked about blacks being singled out by the Police, he referred to the way he himself is being singled out for criticism. Everything is all about him.

Trump may have made some gains -- and he should get a modest bump after his party coronation in Cleveland next week. But the eminent forecaster Nate Silver of fivethirtyeight.com still has Clinton with a hefty lead on the electoral map.

Only 116 days to go before you discover this the hard way!

While Silver was spot-on in the last Presidential election,   I believe this one will be a lot more difficult to call.

The key is how one weights the polling results by various demographic categories related to potential voter turnout.

Yea,  it is fairly easy to gather data on how white women under 40 will vote, or black men over 40,  white college education men etc...

But I don't think one can assume that prior election turnout results based on exit polling (what is traditionally used),  will align well with voter turnout in this election.

Trump pick Indiana Governor Mike Pence as V.P. running mate.

How many of you had ever heard of this guy? On the other hand, then, maybe he's a good counterbalance to Trump. Christie, while a U.S. attorney , had put away Trump's son-in-law's father. Oops.

Can there be any counter-balance to Donald Trump?  The bar is so low now it is resting on the ground.
